Yes, but there are some quality concerns about these.  They may just be OK, based on my experience of a month.  On the other hand, the fact that they are totally "disposable" does offset that to a certain degree.

Another point... it is a sign that this hobby is becoming more of the masses, than the classes alone (usage shamelessly borrowed from Harikesh!).

Anwar,
you might be right, and even i also think about quality as last month i purchased 6 nos. of  same servos at $2.99 each. i am not sure if these are from same lot as the one i purchased is working OK, cant say in long run.... lets see the performance in my new built. i can also see that at this cost of servos one can use these in small foamies plane instead of heavy built where 9gms is used.

Buzz,
i can guess with the topics of bmutlugil is that, IF company Like DELL starts manufacturing a low cost laptops say in the range of 10K, people will start thinking of QUALITY. But my thinking will be performance. Yes performance will be not good as other models of same company, but it will work for small application. i don't think company like turnigy will give disposable product, but yes refurbished can be..........i am planning to order 4 nos. to build my camera Pan and tilt system. Lets see how it performs....

To clarify, I did not mean that Turnigy made them to be disposable.  But at this price, they are as good as disposable to the users, because you can dispose them without too much guilt about the price paid (when a few of them break).

The HXT-900 isn't disposible, you can buy a complete gear kit for a lousy .42 cents. If you strip one it takes a few minutes to repair it. I haven't come across anything more than a few stripped. I change all the unknowns in their planes for the 900 and they are pretty darned goodfor the price. I can't say the battery is disposable. Our group flies on not much more than 3s 2200mah Speedies or Turnigy's. We get excellent runs out of them. The only trouble we've had was one left in a transmitter overnight and went puffy when charged and another was lost behind a cupboard for 18 months and it was still able to be charged but again went puffy. We used them to show the members how dangerous any brand of lipo can be if abused.

In my opinion there would be nowhere near the masses the hobby has at the moment without HobbyKing. The people who used to be scared off with quotes of $800 to $1000.00 for a transmitter are now trying again with $59.00 8 channel programmables. And $70 ready to fly planes. Planes which can be smashed into a dozen pieces but back in the air as good as new within 20 minutes to an hour. Scratch built planes are now possible without having to get a bank loan. In fact our group has just completed revision 10 of Mikey's FPV plane. Complete, ready to fly they cost us the grand total of around $55.00 in any colour as long as it's white. That includes new motor,ESC. prop battery and assorted new bits and pieces.

Switch to LHS in all such cases. I hardly buy any ARF from outside (AXN Floater being the only one). There is no point buying from outside except for TCO or quality/Brand concerns..

Trex 450 DFC

I feel HXT900 servo quality has gone down. When i put it on a servo tester, i notice vibrations at the extreme ends of the knob. If i buy 5 servos, surely 1-2 has this problem. Has anyone else seen this behavior?

I'm afraid too many people rely on comments and statements made by others. The quality of product coming from HK is asgood if not better in some cases as any LHS. Ask where the LHS buys it's stock. I doubt they would answer you but it's China and I know for a fact many buy their stock from HobbyKing themselves. Mainly because they can buy one or two of everything but from Chinese manufacturers to get prices remotely close to HobbyKing's they would have to buy 50 or 100 or more units. Take a look at Alibaba. I am a member of that system and have the ability to buy wholesale and so many times I've been offered special deals on 20 or more items and the price is still way above Hk's.

HK can walk into almost any manufacturer and state their own prices due to their buying power. Very few companies would refuse a thousand buy for $10.00 a unit over 20 buyers wanting 10 of each item. The more they sell the cheaper each item becomes. There are no "one assembly line for LHS's" and "another for HobbyKing" If you see the item in your LHS you vcan just about bet it's identical to the HK version. In fact HK now manufacture a lot of their own products. Has anyone tried the NTM motors. I use them almost exclusively now. With a balanced prop they are as smooth as glass and a lot quieter than other brands. I have dismantled on and found it to be extremely well built. Just try one, you'll  buy more I guarantee it. There are a few items to steer clear of. Mainly the converted aircraft. They are easy to spot. They often have a very small bay for Nimh batteries and a lot of them are under the fuselage with a plastic trapdoor. These are really old planes and the manufacturers caught with them convert them to brushless and lipo which makes it hard to fit a decent battery. Sometimes you can get them as ARFs Youwill have a mongrel of a job making a motor fit and the battery.

Try to stick to the newer planes and there are hundreds of them. A few years ago I bought a fake battery charger from HK. I found out it was fake and thought Id buy the real thing and keep the fake as a spare. I am still using the fake as the real one puffed white smoke at me. A problem in the balancing circuit. It still charges PB, nimh and nicads so it's charging those, the fake charges my lipos, another fake is used by every member of our flying group sometimes handling 3 x 3s 2200mah lipos at once, all day and there's another one still in it's box as a spare. I don't like some of the no name servos and ESCs in some planes and replace them as soon as I get them. I give the ones I pull out to the guys running flying wings which don't seem to mind if they bite the dirt due to a stripped servo.

Be careful what you buy. The newer planes are terrific, my bedroom is full of them and boxes full as well. The Turnigy ESCs are excellent but like any ESC will puff smoke if overloaded

What a stupid question, but I'll give a straight and sensible answer "NO".

I'm afraid the question doesn't warrant more than that.
