Hi Everyone!,

This is my first post and wanted to talk about How I got into RC and as a beginner.

It was around 18 years ago when My dad took me to Kidskemp in bangalore, back then this shop/store was packed with tons of stuff to entertain kids...it was then I saw a guy demonstrating a remote wireless remote car and I was completely lured into it and I needed it so much but I was quite aware this thing would cost a lot of money so I did not bother my dad to buy it for me and that was it, time to time I would see it again in Terminator 2 movie where they show kid using a RC Car, eventually it went out of my mind until I saw 3 idiots movie where they he showcased quadcopter controlled by Aamir, it seems this was built by a student, I was crazy about this so I ordered one 2 years ago played with it for a few days packed it back in the box where it is resting in there since then...

I fulfilled the use of quadcopter but what remained was a RC hobbygrade off road car, It was always in my mind since all those years, we may adults but that doesn't stop one from buying what they wish/like and entertain ourselves...so I went to Modelart at Forum mall in bangalore and picked up "Modelart Sandstorm" and what a car this is...I was amazed with the torque and speed, even my older brother was keen in using it, it was a fun and a happy weekend and now it is back in the Box as I'm not sure where else to take it and play with it but then I found RC-India and all the people here with same RC hobby as I have, it was great finding this RC discussion forum, hopefully I will find a reason to go for a higher scale RC cars/trucks and keep alive with it!

Regards,

Nice to hear the story Doc.  I believe that almost everyone here at this forum has got some story behind entering into this hobby.  Welcome to RC India Doc.  My suggestion if you love cars so much then also look into Nitros in future.

I believe Nitros will be useful especially on offroad racing, I liked Rock crawler more and was looking at Axial SCX 10 and Gmade sawback, while I have little or no technical understanding of RC modifications I sure like to get into understanding the ware and tare, why people upgrade, are you into any group that exercises RC hobby?

Doc unfortunately there are very few people into cars.  But the good news is there is a fellow RCI member who is also a friend of mine who has indepth knowledge of cars n he is a Bangalorean. A very nice person who is always ready to help.  His name is Pravesh. You can probably get in touch with him.  As far as upgrades are concerned that  separates Hobby grade from Toy grade.  you ve a car you use it n comes to know the pros n cons of your setup n accordingly you start upgrading your setup according to your wish n requirement in order to increase the performance of your vehicle. But make sure you ve the manual of your car which helps in a lot ways especially when you need parts n need to upgrade.

Appreciate the help, I have just started looking at RC cars, especially crawlers, so much fun in crawling, I thought I made a mistake buying modelart sandstorm for 7k since there are good 1/10 crawlers available for a good 16k, of which a lot of people are liking Axial Wraith 1/10 but I want to see it in Action once

Doc it's not a mistake buying the sandstorm atleast you ve started with one.  n in my opinion we should start with the base version in order to understand the basics. Wraith is a nice setup but i also suggest you to drop into Rcbazaar that is located at jaynagar 9th block.  you ll find some cool stuff over there including Nitros. Rock crawler is not something which you are going to use often.  look for some good buggy you can just use it almost every day.  But again its all about personal preference. But don't just purchase anything that is available on net without going through some reviews.

@miginstruments - Agreed, It is just that I have become curious of rock crawlers, I will see if I can take out my sandstorm, just used it within the house as there is no other place to explicitly go and use it, I will wait it out since this is also an expenditure buying hobbygrade RC cars
