Hi everyone,
Came across this Academy of Model Aeronautics site.
Contains biography of over 600 famous American aeromodellers.
Of which at least 50 seem like old friends to me from 1970s Model Airplane News and Flying Models.

Kindly see at least a few, starting with, say
Frank Zaic
George Aldrich
Walt Good
Maynard Hill (especially trans Atlantic flight)
http://www.modelaircraft.org/museum/whatshere/abc.aspx

Does anyone know of a similar source for famous UK aeromodellers like John O'Donnell, David Boddington etc?
Or Russians who have held world records but are not well known?

Don't wake a Tiger until you've factored the teeth

I found a few, Iyer sir (Ken Willard, Rich Uravitch - the former editor of MAN and a prolific designer, Hal de Bolt.....)

Regarding world records, as technology in model aviation keeps improving, records will keep vanishing. A 25 size Glow Engine of the 60's could develop maybe 350 Watts, of the 80's (OS FSR ABC) maybe 450 Watts, modern ones over 550 Watts; and so on

KK Sahib
David Boddington used to feature in most of the mags RCM&E and RCMW.
I remember he made a replica of Mills diesel and put his name on it which he later had to withdraw when Rishi sent him a copy of the original plans the rights of which were owned by the Kumar family.
I believe his son is quite active in Aeromodel world now.

@b4ggu,
Long time, eh?

David Boddington's son is the Editor of Aeromodeller since last year, as you probably know.
Regards.

To all my friends "HAPPY LANDINGS"....

KK Sahib,
Yes its been a long time...  Its been miserable weather here so all aeromodelling is resting in the workshop.... ..moreover I slipped and broke my shoulder on a trip to India in Mussoorie so everything has been at a standstill...enjoyed my time at home, dabbled in cooking now back part-time at work.
Weather permitting in March, we will start flying again although there have been quite a few indoor meetings as usual at Coventry Sports : http://www.sportsconnexion.co.uk/

About Boddo's son, its good to hear he is editor of Aeromodelling mag.

However have you actually seen the magazine? It is a rip off! For £5 all you get is a few pages...That mag must be struggling for adverts and aeromodellors input. Compared to RCM&E and RC Model World it is a total washout. I have never bought that mag till recently SHARMA MODEL'S diesel engine was reviewed in January's issue. I felt I had to purchase one and send it to the Sharma's...It must have brought a smile and a nice feeling to them when they would have opened their post.

I believe quite a lot of SMAE engines have been sold recently due to that positive review. Its a very proud moment for me when some one mentions Quality product "MADE in INDIA". I go on and tell them...Did you know RADIAL ENGINES sold in USA are also made by UMS in India??

@b4ggu,
Sorry about your shoulder, but happy you are cooking
I too am cooking, mostly for dog, cook, maid and neighbours!, as RC Aunt in US...

Coincidentally, I mentioned UMS as a supplier of 7 cylinder radials to a US hobby shop on one of my posts just a few hours ago!

Never realised that SMAE could also mean Sharma Model Aero Engg!

Sanjayrai's prolific building goaded me into a new project, presently stalled due to disappointment at own poor workmanship!

Who buys mags now? My RCSD comes free to me digitally without fail every month!
Regards.

KK Sahib,
How do you get RCSD free every month? ... Need to type into Google and research..

Agree with you totally on "Sanjayrai's prolific building".

He makes it look like a "whole" of cake rather than just a piece...

Saying that, Sanjay Rai has inspired me and Allan (My RC flying mate and Friday build partner) into building some models...
We havent done very well this winter so far, apart from Allan picking up a piece of balsa.

Also we are losing our flying site due to dwindling membership and site rent going up...

Our club; BMAC (Burbage Model Aircraft Club) might be amalgamated with a nearby club if all goes well!
