Title: Deepak, from Chennai, Tamilnadu
Post by: rebel xti on October 22, 2013, 11:27:13 AM
Hi all,

My name is Deepak and am from chennai, Tamilnadu. I am a self-employed architect by profession, and am interested in RC planes. I am a beginner and got a "kick start"  ;D rather late in this hobby by my wife .. (as a kid was always fascinated by airplanes and RC, but my parents could not afford it. So, as a kid, I managed to do a few "rubber powered balsa fliers" from aurora co. and with that my hobby was shelved as I got into class 10, then class 12 & finally college.)

For the last 3 - 4 months, I have been researching on radios and little by little saving up to buying one. Seeing my interest, recently my wife surprised me with a cessna 182 (55" wingspan)  :o trainer & Avionics RCB 6i transmiter from RC Bazaar. With a little difficulty, I managed to assemble it completely just last week and now my hands are itching to fly it.

I would love to get in touch with RC fliers from Chennai and it would be great if someone can guide me into this fascinating hobby. Kindly let me know if there is any program of flying this weekend or the following, I would like to observe and learn too.

Thank you all,

Deepak

Welcome to RcIndia.
The 55inch wingspan is huge to start with . You don't wanna crash that beauty in any case :) . You must get Simulator to start your flying . Atleast practice for a month on Sim . Even get any small model for your first flight experience. Skysurfer will do the job very well . Then Let a expert pilot Crosscheck your Cessna and maiden it for you :) .
Salute to your wife . :hatsoff:

Thank you very much Dhruvafreak (nice display name..)

Yup, just as much as my hands are itching to fly the beauty, I do want to get a smaller trainer (am looking at the sky surfer/ mini cessna/ shikra models from rc bazaar & rcforall).. might order one online or visit Mr. Sai's shop again to buy the shikra/ mini cessna.

I did go through the posts on a beginner trying the simulator first. So I went to Mr. sai's shop yesterday and in my enthusiasm bought the FMS simulator cable, hoping it would respond to my avionics RCB 6i radio. Unfortuantely it didnt and am still looking for drivers for the same. Any members can help me out??

And of course, I was all teeth and saluting my wife for the gift!! And yes.. I did look like a jerk..  ;D !!

Regards

Deepak

By FMS simulator cable I hope you mean FMS 4 channel  USB simulator dongle with cable. I has no problem used with Windows XP or lower however with vista and above it needs additional driver files/ virtual serial port depending on operating system. You can easily google it and download copy and paste into program folder.  Connect the dongle to RCB 6i using the audio pin. Without any trainer port adapter.

sundaram sir, I bought the one that is available with Mr. Sai, the one that sells for Rs. 495/-. Will it work with my RCB 6i? Should I google for some driver? I have attached  a pic of the same.

Hi Deepak,

Welcome to the forum.
You can come to Sholavaram flying field any sunday to meet with flyers.
And there are lot of experienced flyers to help and maiden your Cessna.
Timings from morning 6 to evening until it gets darker. alternately you can reach Sai sir. there is another field close to ECR where people fly too. find which one is nearer to you. where do you reside by the way..

Ashok.

As recommended already, get some foamies or scratch build one to fly. 55inch nitro is too big in my opinion to start with.
Any ways. Happy flying . all the best...

Ashok.

By the way ashok, my cessna is not a nitro, it a 55" electric... epo material( is that a foamie??)  But i do intend getting a skysurfer or slow stick too.. to practise.

Hoping to meet you soon sometime.

Download & extract d3drm.dll from zip and paste it inside the FMS Program Folder

Alternatively you can use Aerofly Simulator too.

Hello sundaram sir,

Apologies for the late reply.. I was travelling and I didnt have my laptop with me.

I tried the method told by you sir. The FMS simulator installed fine.. but my Tx is still not recognised by my system. The USB end of the cable keeps on blinking red and the simulator does not respond to the Tx. I am not sure the red light at the USB end is supposed to blink....  shall try to look for other options too..

Alternately should I look at buying a dedicated simulator transmitter sir?

Regards
