Hello Seniors,

I am Anindya Banerjee, a Govt. Employee in West Bengal, residing at Burdwan. Burdwan is about 100km far from Kolkata. I am 40+ years, flying is my hobby though on flight simulator. I use Microsoft FSX and habituated on online flying over VATSIM and IVAO networks.

I would like to start RC flying and really in search of good guidance in this field. Hope to get helps from you all and will spend some sweet moments with you.

Last but not the least, if you please tell me if there is any club or meet that occurs periodically at Kolkata or any nearby city near Burdwan where I can meet personally, see hands on flying by members, get knowledge on RC flying it will be very helpful for me.

Welcome to the Forum brother. Glad to see more people from Bengal taking an Interest in this hobby. Living in Burdwan you have access to large open fields with zero locality. After some sim practice buy a glider type plane and go crash it. You will learn to fly in no time. That's how I started. If you require any help just send a PM.

Regards Ashim.

Thank you Ashimda for your reply. I am thinking to buy Avonic RCB7x Tx cum Rx. I'll connect it to a sim like Phoenix 3.0 for some time. Then will go for a trainer and that I still like is SkySurfer V3. Meanwhile I'll dig the forum for more options and may post for further recommendations. Hope this 7 channel remote will serve me long days without any feel to upgrade for more number of channels.

You also have recommended to buy a glider type plane. May you please tell me which one you will prefer? Also, being a novice, I'll be happy if you post me the other things those I'll need to build the plane ready for flying, like motor, battery, servo and those tiny parts without which a plane cannot be ready for flying.

In this hobby you will always be upgrading. If your ready to spend 5k+ on a radio, then I would suggest you do a little more research before you make a final choice. Practicing on a Sim will help a lot, but it wont stop you crashing. Crashing on the other hand teaches you quick.
I also chose the SkySurfer as my first Plane. Its nice and docile(with the provided motor) and Repairs well. You could also have a look at the
Axn Floater/ Shikra. Which ever plane you decide to buy, search on the Forum for build videos for that model. You will get all the info about parts needed.

I would suggest getting an fs th9x from chintal sir as that is far more capable than the rcb7x.

Hi Mr. Anindya Smiley You should definately go for the TH9x as suggested. Nothing causes you more misery/frustration than a bad radio. TH9X is a great radio and well supported too.

Coro-Champ

Hi Mr Anindya,

My name is Michael, I am a Scholarship exchange student at NIT Durgapur, 2 friends and I scratchbuild and fly planes whenever time allows, if you have some time you could come over for a while and we can go purchase Coroplast(sunpack), such that you may build your first plane. Building is almost as more fun than flying ;-) and the experience of taking something in the air that you created from a sheet of plastic is an awesome one. Do PM me your details so that i can invite you over.

as for now, depending on your mode of transport, you could come fly my planes with my power packs and all, I am sure you will be running to the hobby store as soon as you get the first feel of a real transmitter with a bird up in the air.

I do not know much, but surely i can get you started out in no time.

Hello Michael,

Great to have your reply. I am really curious to meet you. I reside about 15 mins. far from Burdwan Railway Station. I can go to Durgapur to meet you all there. Where do you meet in Durgapur?

Flying is Freedom

Hi Guys,

Recently purchased a Phantom 2 Vision Plus. Have been flying around Kolkata for a month now. Please check out the link below for a beautiful aerial video of our very own City of Joy :

If anyone is interested in joining one of my flight sessions or having a joint flying session with your equipment, PM here. I'm a Merchant Navy Officer and a part time aerial enthusiast.

Best regards,

Quadman

Great video
If thats the way gimbal moves by default avoid moving the gimbal too much

Nice video, a few questions, was the flight done using fpv? and did you have to take any permission for flying near those famous sites?

Flying is Freedom

Every flight was LOS ( Line Of Sight ) and I took permission from local authorities before filming. Although I do have FPV with my Quad, I always fly using LOS.

Problem is people are flying their equipment into stadiums and public places creating nuisance. I always ask a copper before my flight and NEVER take it too far. Open spaces and common sense will keep you airborne.

I thought as much, I noticed someone looking at a screen while you were flying, so I suppose he was giving directions on camera angle.
Taking permission is a good thing but sometimes authorities can be a##holes.
