L'enfant Terrible du RCIndia

I had known him personally for many years now. As a child I used to be in awe of him. One of my last memories of him are from the early nineties, just after my marriage. The wife was particularly fond of the kebabs at Hotel Astor on Theatre Road (Shakespeare Sarani) and I too found their vegetarian fare rather delectable. We were regulars at the property, which was then owned by the Kumars.

Rishi would join us once in a while but Uncle was a regular. He would arrive around 8pm in full formals, replete with a Fedora or a Trilby and walk up to the patrons and have a few words with them. Did they like the food, were the kebabs tender, discuss the weather and so on. True blue hospitality from a perfect gentleman. An anachronism.

We've lost a legend. RIP Uncle.

Just received an sms from Rishi, it reads, "......Yes an era ended. he went peacefully at home. I'm carrying the banner........"

Ahhh! VC, the talk of the gent in the Trilby and Fedora does bring back visage of the old man. I can also bask in the glory of having known the late gent. Many of us in this hobby owe it to him/his family without which perhaps we would have never got into the hobby.
May his family find courage to bear the loss.

I couldn't agree more with you. Well said.

He was a warm and affectionate person. I remember, in 1991 I had participated at the All India Boat modelling rally organised by the India Hobby Centre at the Fort William Swimming Pool. My model (Hull from the good old Brave Borderer and superstructure scratch built) went on to win the first prize in steering/ free sailing accuracy. Uncle proudly announced at the awards ceremony that this model was built by the ONLY civilian contestant in the event (the rest were all NCC cadets). He made me feel 20 feet tall that day. I still have that model, the medal and and the certificate. Nostalgia.

To all my friends "HAPPY LANDINGS"....

Dear Rishi,
Re; Sad loss of ANOTHER PIONEER OF AEROMODELLING IN INDIA

Sorry to hear about the demise of your father.
May Mr. Suresh Kumar rest rest in peace.
Our condolences to you and your family.

I believe at 89 he achieved quite a lot of accomplishments in his life, the one that has inspired me is his love for AEROMODELLING and his contribution in promoting the same.

If it hadn't been for THE HOBBY CENTRE opp Plaza Cinema, Connaught Place, NEW DELHI, and his enthusiasm in producing and supplying all NCC cadets with "AURORA KITS" and MILLS engines I would not have been aware of this hobby.

I salute my hero.....RIP

I thank Kartik of Dhamaka RC for informing me.

Guys, I just spoke to Rishi Kumar and paid my condolences to the Kumar family of Calcutta on the sad loss of their senior most member and THE FOUNDER OF "THE HOBBY CENTRE " OF INDIA, MR SURESH KUMAR.

MAY HIS SOUL BE BLESSED.
Apparently he followed Christianity and Hinduism so his last rites had to be done with the two faiths in view, hence the funeral was a complicated procedure.
At the end of the the day, GOD IS ONE.
God Bless him.

I must thank Kartik of Dhamaka India for informing me.

Information sharing improves knowledge of both.

Hari Bol... Hari Bol....

SAD to know the news. Wish his hope to spread out the hobby of aero-modeling among all civilians. May GOD help us to carry out his banner of true AEROMODELLING rather than  assembling.

We have to unite and to prove ourself to make indigenous products as well as marketing / Canvasing them. I'm sure we must achieve success if we try unitedly.
