Love balsa + nitro, but seem to be switching to EP

Hi Anwar,

Could you introduce an option of searching the member list by city. Like a lot of newbies like myself I would like to meet/chat up with guys who are local to my sorrounding and possibly more aware as well.  Smiley

RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

OK, found some time to mess with code again, and we have implemented this feature  Wink

You can now see the member's city and state in the Members (list) option in the main menu, which takes you here :

http://www.rcindia.org/mlist/

In that page, there is a "Search for members" option, which now includes "Location" as an option ! You can see it here :

http://www.rcindia.org/mlist/?sa=search

Hopefully this will make it easier for people to find RC brethren from their own locality  Smiley

BTW, there are a few users who have not filled in their city and state information in the "Forum Profile Information" section of their account settings.  These are the very first users of the forum, people like RotorZone, Saju and a few others. This is because we did not have the ability to enter that information when the forum was initially launched.

You can see their list by going to the member list and then sorting by "Location" (and their names will come up with the location as empty), as seen here :

http://www.rcindia.org/mlist/?sort=location;start=0

Kindly update the location information, and keep the location information up-to-date if your work/life takes you else where  Roll Eyes

I am not sure we have any urgency for increasing member count  Wink

We want people to know this place exists, and we have done the usual tricks to get it done, which is mostly making the site prominent to web search engines like Google (there are some tricks and rules to that involving sitemaps etc, and we have deployed them all).

Over time, people will come.  They may just watch around, and may never join. Some join, but still doesn't participate.  We just want this to be a "no-pressure" zone Grin

We want this to be a place where people are not afraid to participate because others might contradict/question/correct their opinions.  There is nothing wrong with being "wrong" ("not fully informed" or "not remembering all details" is a better way of saying it).  We are all here to learn/refresh.

I am so surprised by the amount of stuff I learned after I started being active here.  I have been wrong on my posts many times, as there are issues that just escape our scrutiny, or which are just plain unknown to us.

In fact, I question myself every now and then whether I should classify my RC skills as "Advanced" or "Intermediate" instead of "Expert" on my forum profile ( as the initial classification was made without much thought  Roll Eyes ). The reason is that I am realizing there is so much I do not know, as this is a hobby with vast areas of specialization.  But everytime I end up with deciding to keep that classification, as I feel fairly confident about setting up helicopters (both glow and electric), and flying them to some decent level; which are practically the only areas of this hobby that I concentrated on so far. In short, what I am getting at is that there is nothing wrong with saying what you feel you know, and there is nothing wrong with admitting something that you were wrong about.

This hobby feeds a little bit on showing off Grin  Because it serves the higher purpose of letting others know what works and what does not !

If others also find the forum to be an open venue, then we are all set.  The rest will happen.  Word of mouth publicity certainly helps !

In fact, the main/only thing that I would like to see immediately on the forum is for more hobby shops to use this forum like Sai is doing  Tongue  Use this forum to figure out what people want to see in stock, and then source out stuff from vendors that are acceptable to fliers.

If more hobby shops did this, we would see much more choice for the Indian RC hobbyist along with affordability.

Well said. But then again its a catch-22 situation in the sense unless the dealers offer cometitive prices and stocks there would not be too many takers from the local market and on the flip side, unless there is adequate commercial traction, no dealer is going to increase the stocks...

I think the key is new products and new business relations.  Assan would be a good example of an affordable yet pretty good quality product, while Hobbicity is an example of a supplier/vendor that can help with pricing (even though they carry goods of all quality levels).   One can at least watch the reviews on Hobbicity to see how particular products are doing (assuming most reviews are honest).
