Hello everyone,

Its very late for this thread. Neverthless I rather do it now than never.

Initiated late into this beautiful hobby which has been my childhood passion, since Oct 2009 after witnessing two consequent Aero India Shows in Bangalore.

lavish collection of transmitters

It would seem I have a fetish for Tx. I have sold out some.

I have more number  of tx (Three Tx and Three modules) in all for 900 Mhz Micro  than for the full scale.  ;)

Thank you VC and Saikat.

More to come are my workshop and very meagre collection of engines. Though I am an electric fanatic. Being with Gusty I have picked up a small collection of engines which are all waiting for a plane each to be scratch built for them.

Thanks to you Gusty.  ;D

Your flying is always a pleasure to watch. All the terrain mapping maneuvers with wingtip grazing grass, rudder scraping dew drops of golf course, belly jumps, and Human Runway touch off  ;), However I have never been able to shoot videos when you fly because I have always been so intently concentrating on when to dive and dash for cover to dodge the bullet  ;).

I still remember when the F-22 went up with 6x4 prop but after few belly jumps on tarmac came back with well balanced silent prop only the size had been reduced to 5x4.Now a days my Planes are coming in my dream and complaining, Gusty you know why  >:D. I have started to subconsciously protecting them now I know why.  :giggle:

Thanks Sravan. I am starting off with 9cc NGH for now. Its mounted on test bed being run in as of now. Its already clocked two sets of 20 mins each with only 10-15% of fuel tank of a 280 cc consumed. It really sniffs gas. Planning to complete full 2 hrs of run in on test bed before it is put in a model ( off course it is going to be a scratch built  ;D). combination of OEM diaphragm fuel pump and glow style carb is really finicky to tuning. Planning to go glow way of fuel feed drilling the muffler and attaching a nipple.

VC I can assure you your plane will surely fly docile but I can't assure you it will fly level in gusty's hands. Mine flies mostly inverted ;D.

Gusty I am really getting a feeling its your sensual side taking control over your impulse when it comes to Models.   >:D :giggle:

Should be a piece of cake by setting a higher I gain settings and limit. With higher 'I' gain it really follows the stick input at the same time being steady.

I am still getting over the occasional orientation problems when it comes to quad by keeping the I gain low.  :P

One more FPV bird of mine the Eagle wing though this had a lot of CG Issues since its inherent Tail heavy attitude. Now after moving the Video Tx forward the CG is perfect at 55mm with a 3500mah 3S Lipo. with flaperon and elevator to flap mix a charm to fly.

My Eagle wing has gone fully Drone. Fully tested ready for its really long distance mission. Will be taking it to the plains to test its reach.

Title: Re: Sundaram from Trichy, Tamilnadu

Thank you sir. Here if I attempt a really long haul and battery runs out on me its going to land in some inaccessible  hill top or a valley, and may be on top of a huge pine tree. Recovery is going to be next to impossible. It will be like four days jungle trek  :P. Here further I am on a office job with no manpower.

Therefore I am taking it to the plains where atleast entire stretch will be reachable.  Further I will be taking assistance  for recovery team.

@gusty and prateek thank you.

Prateek it has a RVOSD 4.0 upgraded to 5.0.  RV 800 mw 900 Mhz VTX with cloverleaf. Camera is fatshark 520 tvl. Carries a lipo 4400 mah 3S. Motor is 2826 DYS 1000 KV with 9x6 foldable prop. Motor draws about 7-8 amps on wot.
Launch is hand launch but always on flyby wire mode :-[. Total AUW 1230 gms

Sanjay Sir absolutely not, in fact this  (http://www.rcindia.org/electric-planes/long-range-epp-first-person-view-flight/)one flew upto 14,000 feet, 50% throttle, no issues, planning to push it to 20,000, if this massive bird can go to 20 Gs, Eagle wing can breach 25 Gs easily

Title: Re: Sundaram from Trichy, Tamilnadu
Post by: sanjayrai55 on March 11, 2013, 09:32:31 AM
Thoroughly enjoyed the video Gusty  :salute:

IC Engines get a significant derating with altitude. I would think the same applies to electric prop planes too, as the density of air decreases with altitude, and therefore so does the thrust. Maybe it did not make much difference to your model

What is your experience as a Fighter Pilot?

Title: Re: Sundaram from Trichy, Tamilnadu
Post by: sundaram on March 11, 2013, 11:28:06 AM
Eagle wing can breach 25 Gs easily

No way gusty!!!! Till date I have taken this about 1400 Mtrs above from GL at 1850 Mtrs near Shillong peak. That would be total 3250 Mtrs i.e about 11000ft.

Just when it crosses 600 Mtrs mark from GL it is not seen with naked eyes, even if it is right over your head because it was plain white foam earlier. From top you can see your flying field on FPV but the model is not visible from below even to get it down perforce you have to fly FPV even if it is right over you head.  That's the main reason for its gaudy colour scheme ;D. The under belly is even darker greens now .

With more than 40 Min of Flight time and when Eagle Wing reaches heights of more than a Km in just about 7-8 min, easily possible to touch 25K ft.

I am not Gutsy Like Gusty?  :giggle:

Ha Ha Ha

Bhat a Bideo Sir ji !!!!!

Only Some believe in Keeping the model as well while doing the 25K ft.  ;) So doing it step at a time.
Would be doing the 25K ft too before you know it. Just let my pepper box too get ready.
Being a Terrestrial Guy always believe in "Live another day to fight the battle".  Glory is of no good when dead.  ;D

In no way I am disagreeing with you Gusty.  :) Only those with guts can achieve.  :hatsoff:

The clovers on both the models are doing just fine giving good connectivity with a Patch or Biquad or dipole on the ground even though being liner polarized on one side. The two SPW which I made with Umbrella wire for the GS is not behaving. I have trashed both of them. Long back I had collected Mig wire. Making of a new SPW pairs and a pepper box is long over due. High time I get to it.

RMILEC 433 is also here with me Now. To mount it I need a really good GS antenna for video.

This is what is there in the belly of the beast.

(https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-rAHgR-4Qekc/UZmpL6ku7_I/AAAAAAAABb4/Cs-WSVlPcns/w640-h480-no/2013+-+2)(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-zuk3TypBi58/UZmpL33c_DI/AAAAAAAABb0/R3YrIPULUyA/w640-h480-no/2013+-+1)

Earlier I had huge C.G issues with eagle wing. This one being inherently tail heavy requiring heavy Lipo to balance. with the Belly proving to be in accessible wiring electronics was proving to be difficult leaving space for only Lipo. with side magnetic hatch now opened on both sides, wiring was a breeze, leaving all Space in the nose for only LIPO and perfect CG.

Thanks to Gauravag and his company for flying here in Shillong. This is the longest Haul FPV I have done which is close to 3.2 KMs over Umium Lake which is 6Kms across from one end to other without using LRS and without using booster and no modification to the Radio with the Stock rubber ducky antenna.

The Radio is Futaba 10CHG. Video 900Mhz 800mw. Channel 2 1010Mhz. Model Eagle wing, Lipo 3800mah 3S Nanotech. (OSD is caliberated to give earlier warning) Even at 3.2 Kms I had Solid link on radio control only the video was grainy and because of my earlier close circuits, the Lipo was 70% empty I had to turn back, or else would have tried to hit its limit. Please don't miss the last bit just about water skimming landing and please read through the Flight summary. Ignore the bit after that which I had forgot to clip.

Thanks for watching.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=gY4R86ZcnRs

By the way the HK HD II cam in the nose went Kaput after the bump in the landing with the mud heap, the HD video of the flight though is safe. The flight was defenitely worth it.

First quad has been assembled and tested flies like a charm. No more painful programing of ESC one at a time. The KK 2.0 boad has also been flashed with version 1.6++. In self leveling mode the flight is rock solid stable and is agile with stick control.

Three of my models The Quadcopter, Microquad, and 0.15 ASP hornet Balsa laser stick was added with night flying upgrade. Done some crazy extreme night flying for the station audiance here during a light and sound show in a social function here in pitch black night in open golf course. I will have to fly again one day just to shoot video.  :)

Yes Gusty definitely. I need all the pointers possible before I proceed.

This one with self wt at 450gms and with a claimed thrust of just 1.6 Kgs ( I hope the posted specs at HK is not wrong) I have very less margin to play with. I need a Model much less than 2 Kgs AUW to have a any real fun with this Jet Engine.

The setup are as under

Frame Clone Backout mini
Flight controller CC3D (yet to add a GPS and OSD/telemetry). I can hardly find any more space to do so.
Receiver FrSky Tfr4 CPPM used.
Motors RCX 1804 2400KV.
Props 5x3 Carbon fibre (HK)
ESC Simonk 10 Amps Satya Gupta.
Mobius HD Cam
FPV Fatshark 600tvl min cam with 600mw 5.8Ghz tx and clover leaf.

Its a pain to plug a USB cable because of restricted space to tweek codes. I think I need to add the bluetooth module for the time being. Need to add tubes for the receiver aerial too.  God how i wish the USB port could have been to the sides.

Cloud Dancer retired at my hands in six pieces. Happy that engine survived intact since it landed in soft wet ground. Just on take off the BEC Lipo fell off with the velcro strap and wood to which attached. It did about four loops in WOT without any control before nosing to the ground in WOT. Scary scene though.  It's gone for good.

With an Airbush and compressor for Acrylic paint use. Some times with EPP and EPO I even use disposable automotive compressed spray paint cans.
