Title: "for indian farmers" by Fahad of Robosoft Systems
Post by: b4ggu on November 18, 2010, 12:48:25 AM
Hi All,
I am starting this thread for a "UAV" .

Fahad wants to build one as a project, please can the experts out there give suggestions..... Thanks... Deepak

Hi every one
This will give  u enough insight of what we plan to do but we want more flight time so we can cover more area,
for indian farmers it will be a super cheap if its made in india.

We are trying to build a glider which can carry a camera with PTZ setup of 1kg, the reason of glider is it can carry this for the longest amount of time, As compared to a quad and  powered model .

Once the model is ready in flying condition we intend to make it autonomous   Robosoft Systems which is a registered company in India under companies acts 1956 is partnering with an institute and plan to make it commercial over the yrs .we have  strong background in robotics, embedded systems  and  have done various projects for different clients.

We lack domain experience in aero modeling and are looking for advice from experts like you over the subject.

For more information and authenticity of our back ground you can Google about me and Robosoft systems.

This is Fahad,
"Dont you think a petrol engine will be better suited for this. Can you imagine the number of batteries and cells required to fly for 3 hours?"

we had given a thought over it and concluded electric would be clean n simple which will have no issue of engine cuts ,vibrations, noise which comes with ic engine.

Also the payload you want to carry is 1 KG so why does the plane have to weigh 10 KG??

no it need not be 10kg if payload is 1kg, it was a ballpark figure I used for finding the kind of setup which will e needed.i was searching on the net parallel to this query and learned that all up wt would be not more than 5 to 6kg.

we plan to use fiber glass which is a heavy material and just did a basic surface area calculation and arrived at 8.9kg , I rounded of to 10kg to be on the safe side.

I am not an expert but you do need to talk to the experts;
Rishi, Sai, Ismail, Vivek, Manjeev and eshwar

Comments from Rishi (Aurora ...Calcutta);    Hi Baggu.

........... 15kg ALW in 7ft wingspan.  a glider that size , just the glider made of wood, styrafoam, corrugated plastic, whatever will weigh 1.5 kgs

Am I missing a decimal ?  or is he carrying BRICKS.

Wing Chord of 6 to 7"  Wont carry more than 2 kg even after beefin up with carbon fibre rods.

He should consider this project next year after visiting some sunday flyouts. Build the plane first then we will worry about the motor and battery. Ive yet to see an electric 15kgs in weight. He wl need a double Hacker with gearbox to lift that weight. Price 50000 only for the Hacker !     Cheers,

   Rishi

Hi rishi

Yes you are right I got the number all wrong, what we want to make  a electric  glider which can carry 1kg of payload for 3 hours.  So I was wondering what  kind of electric set would be required for it

In one place its mentioned 10kg all up weight. and way below its mentioned 1 kg payload !

Okay 15 is out.........................10kg is also impossible too on 7ft wingspan. its fine if he wants a powered glider, but in 7ft he can lift 2 kg max max. That too without a 2G turn otherwise Namaste to the wings.

And if its 1kg payload in a glider then Empty Glider, no engine, wl weigh 3kgs max ! so why are you looking at 10kgs.

    Naughty naughty !

BTW, IIT kharagpurs aerospace dept is 4 yrs ahead. Drop the project if its on a national interest scheme. Your own hobby club fine as you have the greenbacks. IIT have made evrything which you intend to do. Even a 12 footer SOLAR POWERED electric glider which has flown continuously for 8 hrs many times. Theyre going for 24hrs soon. All panels imported from uSA cost 5 lacs.....ultra lite. Special efficisnt motors to work on solar energy direct etc etc.( Boeing Project and subsidies). and ofcourse Pilot from Indias Hobby Centre Kolkata.

I

I will be happy if you can pass me the info so I can get in touch with them or their website

That would be great help

Hobby club..................plenty of stuff around. Stick closest toy uor city. I can help you out if i know where your based. I have friends in evry city. Mode 1 and 2.

The requirements of this project and much more are already handled, executed and documented at other UAV/AP specific forums.

I think spending a few hours at a site like http://www.diydrones.com will handily give Mr Fahad what he is looking for.  One kg payload and 2 to 3 hour flying time are not really big deals any more.

Hi deepak can you pm me your details so that we can get in touch and work upon further plans and action course.
I am also working on similar platform which is almost at completion.

Hi Harsh,

You need to get in touch with Fahad as he is the one starting this project. I justed posted it for him to get some help and share his pitfalls so others can learn.
You can also get in touch with Ishwar from ENR models as he is also into UAV's.
Then Vivek from Sharma Aero Engines and propellors in Jodhpur is an old hand at these too...
