Title: 2hp Electric bike
Post by: pankaj on July 10, 2012, 06:21:12 PM
Hello RCIndians,
Here is the ebike we made (Not for any specific project just for fun   ) Last month . Nothing is costly here except the ESC.

Parts Used:
1)Rewinded 270kV 1750 Watts BLDC Motor (There are so many Chinese vendors selling it ,Anyone will do.Rewinding is required to reduce the RPM further . Y-Delta thing   )

2)Modified Castle creations ESC (HV 120): In the name of modification you have to add a heat Sink(Bigger is better),and LOW ESR capacitors in Parallel to battery (On the ESC).

3)2650mah 6S lipo 65C(C rating is very important here)

4)PWM Pulse generator (Servo Tester)

5)Any used Bicycle(Diameter of wheels should be less)

Total gear reduction is 5.5 (Gear) X 3.2 (Sprocket) =17.6 : EXACT
Maximum Current :122Amps EXACT (CC ESC'S data is logged automatically and can be viewed in Computer using their Software)
Top speed when battery is fully charged is 30-35kmph.: APPROX
Can carry 2 Persons(Payload=120Kg).  APPROX
Can go uphill upto 30 Degrees.  APPROX

*Approx is used where the parameter is not Technically measured.

*Had to mute the video (due to obvious reasons  :giggle: ) so the Screaming motor is not audible(There is nothing sexier than a screaming motor).

The person riding is me  ;D

Love it Pankaj, I have a bike lying around for years, can put it to good use i guess when i have some time :)

True inspiration.

Thanks Dheeraj Sir.
Any questions/ Further explanations of any particular part /mechanism can be asked in this thread itself.

Pankaj, if you can describe the process briefly, it would be great.

How much time you spent building this? This answer alone will decide that i will think about doing it or not ... :)

Start to Finish time was 15 days .The winding of motor and mechanical part is what consumes the most of time.We are planning to make a Power bike (4~5 hp) in july end .Will try to post proper build log for that one.

Thanks.

Using servo extension to the servo tester which is mounted on right handle. Bike Accelerator type arrange can be made using a push pull Clutch cable and mounting a pulley on the servo tester.Exponential throttle can also be made by using a variable diameter pullry on the Servo tester.

I love the it too..

Whats the run time you get?
pankaj, why not attach the heat shink of ESC to the metallic rod of bike for further heat discipation..

Where have you placed the battery?

run time is around 2-4 minutes.
Attaching heat sink to metal body seems a good idea will try it out in next build.Battery is strapped to the horizontal rod of cycle.

awesome awesome. great work. Did you weld the shaft to the gear using a gas torch?

@ Gusty Sir Thanks ,I will try to write a complete build log and post it here. @Girish Sir Thanks.Small gear is mounted on motor using shear key(welding not possible due to possible damage to stator),Big gear is welded.( normal electric welding).

Pankaj, one more thing.. just keep safety in mind as well..
use lipo-safe bags during runs.. i am not sure whether there are chances of explosion of lipo during use, but you are very close to it during rides..

best wishes for your next experiment

wonderful pankaj !!!  :hatsoff:

maybe using the dry 2 wheeler battery with self charging facility (like using dynomo or otehr alternative) may help more to run longer?

good going and best luck for the next model

How did I miss this? This is so inspiring. Well done Buddy!!! :hatsoff: {:)} {:)} {:)}

How about a close up video to show how the various parts work in conjunction?

Thanks Vineet Sir.

Thanks Abhay bhai for the suggestion on safety precaution of the lipo .I dont think the battery has any chance to explode . BTW the battery pack is pretty close to Important body parts.  ;D

Thank you Anand Sir.
maybe using the dry 2 wheeler battery with self charging facility (like using dynomo or otehr alternative) may help more to run longer?

One can never charge a battery by dynamo in this case ,the power you get from dynamo will be Always lesser than what you will have to give additional to the prime mover (motor). In other alternatives the only option i see is solar power ,that too is not feasible as we will have to use 15 m^2(1m^2=100 W ) of panel for 1.5KW .

Thanks VC sir, I am so glad i could inspire the inspirer . New pics and videos will be added in 2 weeks. here is another pic where the sprocket reduction is visible (Sprockets are just interchanged,Big on wheel ,small on shaft).
