Title: A new material?
Post by: K K Iyer on December 22, 2016, 08:40:41 PM
Hi everyone,
Noticed that sanjayrai55 is:
1. Inspiring many with his coro builds
2. Using a LOT of balsa, esp for spars

Been looking for alternatives. One such is 'baton', or window beading.
Costs about Rs 2.50 per foot in 1/4" x1" size.
The problem is to strip it into 1/4"x1/4"

Here is my attempt (after many failures)

I have used this as it is as a spar in a SPAD.
What is the need of such strips?

Iyer sir

I have used the same for the spar of my wings and it also available in 1/2inch*1/2inch... Its used as fuselage for the moss glider.

Once a carpenter chiseled an 1/4inch*1inch into 1/4inch*1/4inch...

I guess chisel might make the work a lot easier...

Hi Srinivas
1. Weight saving
2. Cost saving
3. 1/4x1/4 potentially useable as spar, spar cap, longeron etc...

Hi Deva
Didn't have a carpenter or a chisel, but had the dremel and carbide cutting wheel...

Regards to both.
