Title: Balancer Schematic for Lipo Charger.
Post by: abhi.vishw on March 07, 2015, 03:07:35 PM
Hi,

I have build a Lipo Charger based on MAX1758 IC. The results are quite impressive.
8 Pin Dip switch is used to select No. of Cell's, maximum charging current is 1.5A and other decent features.
However, i would like to add a balancer to the circuit so the cells are balanced while being charged.
A good balancer schematic is one like this (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=4678373), but only problem is how to make the charger/balancer automatically select the no. of cells to be balanced?
I was looking around for the schematics of Turnigy E3 Charger as it is quite similar to this charger.
If anyone could help with this.

I already have a Turnigy Accucel 6, so this is just for experimentation purpose.

Are you using any microcontroller ? If yes then, maybe sense the inputs coming from balance leads to check if any voltage is present on the leads. You might need an Analog multiplexer/Switch.

A block diagram or basic schematic of your design can help a lot.

I am confused as to whether you want to control pin 11(CELL) of MAX1758 automatically or just the balancer circuit or both.
