Title: D.I.Y homebuit Hot Wire Foam Cutter
Post by: Subir on April 10, 2011, 07:54:25 PM
Hi everyone

After trying to cut foam with the hobby knife and getting very uneven surface. decided to build
a hotwire cutter.

Have an old computer table, made a small hole in the centre aand at the top
Attached the bottom string with simple screw and for the top connecter
used a J Hook used for holding corrugated metal sheets in making roof
Used a Small spring as a tensioner for when the wire gets hot and expands
a 12V 3Amps power adapter which was lying in the house was used , you can also use a 12V 2Amps
The nickle crome string is a guitar wire No. 2

Any comments on how to make it better will be highly appreciated

Thanks

Subir

How do you intend to control the temperature of the wire?
Also keeping the foam sheet stationary and make the cutting wire movable is much more convenient.
There are many posts in this forum on making hot wire  foam cutting bows. Please go through them.

best wishes,
Rao.

keeping the hot wire moveable, you'ed need very stable hand for that. This way much more convinent.
