Hi Guys, Anyone tried their hand on DIY of 3 axis gimbal for handheld videos with a payload of above 3 kg ?

I am planning to built one for me.

One question is on my mind, that is which will determine the payload capacity of a gimbal ? the motors or the connecting tubes ?

If its the motors then, do you guys have any idea on which motors to be used for more than 3 KG pay loads, I have seen some motors used by RC Timers, Came 7000 etc... But I need to know like why cant we have a bigger payload so that we can use bigger cameras and bigger lens with it...

The structural strength of the gimbal will depend on the tubes that you choose. The camera payload that you can use on the gimbal will depend on the motors you choose for the gimbal. Bigger the payload means more current being drawn by the motors. There is a limit to the max current that the motor driver chips can supply before going up in smoke.

The alexmos and the martinez gimbal controllers can provide upto 4 Amps per motor.

The motor that I know of having such torque is 'F06458 DYS BGM8108-90T' with 5kg torque. Rest of motors can do 2kg max that I found. Not many options for 3-4kg torque motor.
