I have a few number of Component Drawers bought over time. However, there was a stage when I had just 3 component drawer sets but the number of components was large. Finding component drawers in India was not an easy task. So bought a number of small plastic boxes for storing my small components.

But once I added additional drawer sets, these boxes have been lying unused.

I recently bought my first lot of Foamboard (Sunboard) for building my boat. I liked the material and believe that it has a lot many uses in our workshops other than just building boats.

So, as a second project (first was building a stand for the boat), I built a component drawer set for the small plastic boxes that are lying unused.

Sunboard or Foamboard is different from laminated foam. It is a PVC based sheet and can easily be stuck with Cyno. So used Fewi Kwik for bonding the pieces.

I started by drawing a grid on the Sunboard to accommodate 5 X 6 boxes.

I then attached three outer sides.

Next step was creating the lower most set of pigeon holes. For this stuck the vertical separators, which was followed by attaching the horizontal separator.

This step was repeated six times creating the complete component drawer set.

Next step was sliding the plastic boxes for completing the Component Drawer.

30 boxes were accommodated in the Component Drawer Set. However, number of small boxes are still left. So soon I would be making another 2 sets of Component Drawers.

Hope to have my electronic components stored in a better retrievable manner once the other two sets are ready.  Roll Eyes  Grin  Roll Eyes

Hi ashok

Nice one, can you post more information on PVC board like thickness, cost etc.

B/w is this board more like a sandwich type (top PVC sheet + foam in middle + bottom PVC sheet) ?

@Sahil
This is what is referred to as foam board and commonly known as Sunboard. It is available in 2, 3, 4 & 5 mm thickness. I have used the 3mm variety for this project. The board is used for preparing printed sign boards and used by the ad industry. It is also used for making car number plates. It is a popular material for building rc boats.
This is not a multi layered sheet but a single sheet. It is different from laminated biofoam or depron which is foam layered between sheets of paper.
I purchased the material from New India Hobby Centre, Bangalore. The size of the sheet is 8ft x 4 ft. The rates quoted by this store are 2 mm - Rs700, 3mm - Rs1000, 4mm - Rs1400 and 5mm -Rs1560. This store sells cut pieces at prorata rates.
For this project I used a 2ft x 2ft cut piece
