Title: Handlaunch/catapult biofoam-glider
Post by: B.karthik on August 02, 2009, 08:14:52 PM
hi friends this time i have made a glider of my own design.i made a prototype model similar to the model here with the chord increased further and tested it and flew very well when handlaunched in my home and hence i decided to make that fully.i flew it in my home but not yet in ground and flew good.

Problem:
1.as the wing is of 2mm thickness i need to reinforce it so the wing doesnt bends as foam is weak in structure.what are the choices for reinforcement material.
please help this beginner.

Try Kebab sticks or carbon fiber rods

You can find it in Nilgiri's super market or Currimbhoys  in Adyar  near the Aavin round about .

Ask them for Stick used to make kebabs.

it was a disaster.i went today to my ground and testflight it.it was flying longer distances with less power from catapult.but after reaching maximum distance it suddenly nose dives and the fuselage broke at nose, foam wing got broken at wing-fuselage joint.
i dont know what could be the problem for nosedive but the wind was perfect calm.

Loss of airspeed leading to a stall .Where was the nose pointed at the time of the nose dive in relation to the horizontal.
