Title: MY GUPPY GLIDER
Post by: R C on September 16, 2010, 07:26:45 AM
Hi all,

This is my Guppy glider a balsa model, 30" fuselage & 60" wingspan.
Free Plan is available on net. Its a three channel model. Rudder, Elevator and throttle.
I am planning to make another wing for this model with Aileron (may be next month)

I did a test flight, it glides beautifully, no video as i was alone.

few pics.

Motor mount & canopy.

Canopy made from pepsi bottle, but i am not happy with it, so i will change it.
If any one has any idea for a canopy then please suggest.

On this sunday I had opprtunity to test fly this beauty(with aelirons).
Fantastic model to fly, excellent glide & manuverability.
Holds on really good for inverted though being a glider.
I would give 9 on 10 to this baby.

Hi RC,

Its really a beatiful design. But still not able to understand how the front part of the fuse you have build (F1.jpg, F2.jpg and F3.jpg).

could you please add little more about how you bent the balsa so nicely to get such a finish? Please share the techniques

which material you are using for covering the wing and What material you have used as pushrods?

Regards
Dileep

I like it, I like it, I like it!!!
For the canopy, make a wodden plug (shape of the canopy desired) cut up a pepsi bottle and heat shrink it over the wooden plug with a heat gun.
Or if you know how to you can make a wodden plug (male), a female cutout, and heat the plastic sheet to plunge mould the canopy. It may take some practice, but you would learn. The male plug has to be ultra smooth if you do not want to end up canopy showing all the imperfections.
Do some search on the net and you may even find a video or two of the process

I have covered my wing with a normal thin plastic sheet, i just wanted to do a test glide, but i will be covering it with monokote which i have purchased from rotor.

For pushrods i have used cycle cables, it works fine.

Thanks

Thanks flyingboxcar,

I will try the method, but little busy, if you have any web link which show how to do the canopy then please let me know.

Rotor does not sell Monokote. However the covering they sell is good (a tad bit heavier than Monokote and less shiny). If you are looking for transparent wings, you can even use lamination film.
As for Monokote, I guess all of us use this term the same way Dalda, Surf and Stepney are used by us Indians.

O.....   its not Monokote,
Anywayz i just received the wing covering & it looks nice.
I have yellow & red wing covering, planning to put yellow in the middle of the wing & red at the end of the wing. Will it look good?

I am planning to cover my wing yellow in the middle & red at the side.

I have attached the pics of the wing for example, but i dont have transparent wing covering.

Once i complete i will post the pics, right now the wing is covered with a normal plastic sheet.

Thanks
