Yep, many more rubber bands, but I guess it was minimal just for the photo session  Cheesy

Did you do the design also, or was it based on available plans ?

Good build. Would love to see it fly.

As always, scratch builds are very special for me.

"Schoolboy"

Made the traditional way with balsa and covered with
japanese tissue paper over mylar(polyester film)

Its four channel powered by a Norvel .061 Big Mig Engine

Attaching another one

own design / balsa / electric / four channel

Absolutely Fantabulus Saikat Da. And you son is a lucky chap to vitness such fine hobby since his child hood. You latest model looks completely like an ARF in finishing and craftmanship! wish to build such a bird some time in my hobby.

When there this kid in picture, I am daring to ask this general question. Married seniors tell me, how wives react to this engrossing hobby of men (Since this hobby is largely popular in men only, except few exceptions) ?? My photographer enthusiast frinds allwas say that 'Wife and Glass(Lens) don't gel' i.e when ever they acquire a new lens (especially the professional L ones from Canon), they have a hard time with their wife.  Violent Arguement Bang Head Discuss Giggle
What is the general mantra to strike the balance between the  hobby and family life ? This applies more to scratch (and that out of Balsa) builders like Saikat Da who might spend even longer hours in the hobby ?

Thanks for the kind words guys

Ankur - I wish my son had your level of interest - he is in class 6 and all
he wants to do is play with his PSP.

Ujjawana- I am lucky to have an understanding wife - and a job which allows me
to actively pursue my interests. Only thing is that there are no like minded people around.
That has started to change thanks to this forum - there is now VC in Guwahati and Nabam
in Itanagar.

posting another model to show how I keep in touch with my roots  -

Hello Saikat,

Looking at the photos of your models, there seem to be lot of rubber bands around the under carriage. Is this on purpose? How does it work?

Good question - I make most of my models up to .25 size with removable
undercarriages. Makes them easier to store with the undercart removed.

Hopefully the pics should explain - sorry for the lousy quality as i am using my
wife's phone

Hi Saikat,
Is that Y-Bar your own re-drawn plans. I have an old Y-Bar wing and I lost the plans to some house cleaning. Can you please post your Y-bar plans. The wing shape is surely not the same as the one that comes in the kit sold by IHC. Anyway, real nice to see this plane. Did you R/C-fy this model any time. Even the fuse seems thicker than the one in the kit.

Yes - the IHC Ybar was the inspiration - but I did not go
with the curved wingtips. The fuse is thicker cause it contains
radio gear,  It is single channel RC - rudder only - mainly to
land it in the same field it was launched from.

Plans - you are most welcome to them - if I can find them,

simple solution. Keep track of exactly how much you spend on your hobby and buy the missus diamonds worth the same amount. the missus will actually encourage you to spend more on your hobby.
My wife waccompanied my son and myself to the flying field only to confirm that there are other "CRACKPOTS" ;ike the 2 of us.

But kit and scratch building need TIME  which all of us have a limited supply of.

Interesting design. What is the material used? What prop have you used? Thumbs Up

I had bought a bunch of red plastic props
from IHC Kolkata when I was a kid. I still have a
couple left.

material used is the pinkish/reddish wood that used
to be sold by IHC

I built the boat about 15 years back. Just got it
out the other day - upgraded the electronics
and had a blast sailing with my son.

Its been raining a lot here recently -ideal
for boats.

Hi Saikat,

Excellent work. So amazed to see the pic of canary design.   Salute

How you cut the fuselage? which tool you use? is it made of balsa wood? Please share the techniques to make such awesome plane.

Regards,
Dileep
