when I am sober my heli is drunk..

Hello members,

I had started building my C-160 Transall a while back and due to lack of time stopped.
A few days ago I got 2 full days to work on her and finally completed the skeletal profile.
I am naming this thread as my build Log so I will be updating the progress I make as time passes by.
The Transall is a complete scratch built plane with no plans, I actually referred to RC groups thread and tried searching for plans but the best I could get in a "zipped plans file" were rather pictures.
So the dimensions are complete my own. I am just completing the build partially as I got no electronics and no place to fly my plane here in Kuwait. Therefore, it is partially "incomplete"
but already box packed and kept safe so as I can complete it once I land in Goa somewhere in early December!
My second build is a Predator Drone, again a complete profile plane, got the plans from a website, and I will be more then happy to send these plans to anyone who wishes to build one for himself!

Materials used:
I am using locally found foam board and flexible blue colored board, that is ultra light and has some kind of  "rubbery" compounds mixed into it! I really don't know what its called but am posting some pictures, so you guys can maybe tell me what it really is!
The glues that I use are locktite silicon sealant and Ultraseal contact adhesive!
Locktite is used on the foam board because the ultraseal tends to melt the soft foam to some "ectoplasmic" material.
Lastly, I used kebab skewers to complete the frame and believe me, these Kebab skewers are the best things that I have come across, as they are very strong, light and flexible!(but no substitute for CF rods on the wings)

The last project that I will be starting soon is the F14. (Plans provided by the ever helping VC)

Posting some pictures for a better idea on what I am upto!

regards,

Dorwin

Presenting a proper build log is always better for you as well as to others. Although I am not in aeromodels but seniors can advice and at the same time juniors can learn from you.

L'enfant Terrible du RCIndia

Very neat and precise cuts my friend! Take your time - this is going to be a beauty. All the best! Just one unwanted piece of advice - since the rest of the aircraft is going to be scale - don't you want to do a more precise job on the engine nacelles? Let me see if I can help you by getting some pictures and closeups of the engine assemblies.

Cheers!

a small suggestion ,if possible use variable pitch prop and motor it makes it to land just like real c-160 does and while landing pitch reversing makes it to stop within feets! Thumbs Up

best of luck Thumbs Up

Thanks you guys! I have dropped the idea of that showergel bottle!
I actually thought it would look good, but then I realised that it would not be scale at all..
So, now am working on fabricating the real look alike engine casing.
Today, glued the skeleton for the C160, looks good...
will post a picture later in the evening!

Maharana - Advice taken! will try and keep my build log professional.

VC - Yes! if you can find some close up pics!  Thumbs Up
Praveen - I am firstly trying to finish the build, later will fiddle of the electronics!! I don't think my plane is going to be so advanced, but I will consider what you've said, and think!

thanks

Here goes!
As I cannot work more on the Transall, I kept her aside and started working on the "Predator Drone" today.
Completed both wings, finished the fuselage.
Boxing up the fuse was a huge task as the folds were really tight and the addition of 2 bulkheads inside made the task even more bothersome!
Finally managed to get the fuselage glued together. I used Locktite Silicone on the joints and stuck thread tape!
One piece of advice on the thread tape!
I have a huge scale co axial and it so happened that my roommate broke the blades due to his stupidity once, I rolled a thread tape on the blades and till today am using broken blades without any problems(I can physically bend the blades  Giggle)
will post some pictures of that later.
What I meant to prove is that these kinds of tapes are very handy specially if one does not wish to do much gluing!

Tomorrow will finish with the tail fins and the vertical stabilizer and then finally, taping the complete drone and painting!

Alas! no electronics for me...all I can do here is make my models and pack them for December  Bang Head

Once the Predator is completed I will be completing the fuselage profile of the Transall in the days to come!

regards,

Dorwin

Had gone to the hardware store here in Kuwait today, guys wont believe what these people sell>
1. fiber glass repair kit>> includes: fiber glass cloth, resin, emry paper all at around 200 INR
2. CA glues
3. Cement glue.
4. 5 min epoxy.
5. araldite
6. Silicone glue.
7. hobby blades and knives.
then went to the stationary to get my paint and there I found:
1. Blue core/ white core sheets (these are the ones the guys at rcgroups mostly use to build their full profile jets)
2. Depron sheets.
3. Camo paints
4. Foam boards(the one I used)
5. Kebab skewers(smaller version)
6. clamps and all things needed for aero modeling.

Well the C160 is at a halt! I got the wrong thickness depron..
Please help me out in detailing it further more guys! without your advices and comments I would still be waiting for my Heli fuselage!

guys! I have still not glued the wings and rudder assembly to the main fuse. The rudder therefore looks like its sitting at 10 degrees, its all a dry fit for this photo session and with my poor quality mobile camera managed to get some shots!
Here are some more!

If you guys need the plans, please Pm and write down your email addresses!

Good Job. I like the predator too..

I guess, you may have a tough time balancing the plane on air. The wing chord seem to be a bit narrow.

Good luck with the maiden.

Thanks Rajath Grin

Thank you Izmile, but I don't think the balancing part will be a issue as the wings are long enough to keep her steady in air as per the design. Like those slow gliders, the wings tend to bend a little making it much more easier while flying, kinda like a dihedral setting . I am saying this because I once flew a 60" wingspan A10 belonging to a pal of mine and its wing chord too is a little bit narrow, believe me when I say this! she could glide slow and smooth at around less then 25% throttle which looked like she was vector thrusting or somefink!

but I can't boast too..hehehe!
I may look very stupid if I crash her after I typed this, so yes! I will research more on this!
Thank you for your advice Grin

Anyways! can't talk too much before I maiden her,

After having a second look, I see that the stabilizer area is almost 1/2 the area of the wing area. So, you should be fine with the CG even if its a little bit aft from the intended location. Let us know how it turns out.

thanks for sharing your thought..
I am currently thinking of starting the C-160 build.
Lets see, can't just sit idle doing nothing.
A week later comes the CH-53 fuselage..all exited!

Nice painting! Thumbs Up

between the wing looks narrow as izmile mentioned and also these aftwinged planes (wing usually located near to empennage ) will have tendency of nose dive ,even though CG is correct, and gains high speed while landing!

Thanks Praveen, I guess I did not want to modify the plans, but I suppose the Predator is meant to be like this.
The front is pretty strong and is made entirely of Rubberised foam(In India we get those cheap chappals made of almost this kinda material) But this is lighter..
Picked it up from a sports shop, it was a mat meant for "workout and yoga"

guys, please bear with me for this un-assembled post of my build logs. The situation in which I am does not allow me to lay back, relax and build my models. I  have to make use of every hour and minute to get things done..
