Hi,

This is the first time i am posting my scratch build plane, this is my third scratch build plane. the first plane was build of Thermocol & the second from CORO.

This plane is made from BALSA STRIPS and CORO.

It would be great if some valuable information is posted by the members with regards to the design, specially about the wing.

I have also made Ailerons, but i am not sure about the mechanism. So some valuable information on how to fix the servo for Aileron.

Please post the AUW, and power system used.  Also, flight reports, if already maidened.

Leaving the aileron servo question to be answered by people who do more scratch builds.

Very good build. I see that you have used coro with wooden frame work. Way to go.

How much does the aircraft weight? Just make a opening on the wing so that the sevo slides in and then tie it with cable ties. I will post a picture on that later.

This motor is a high kv motor, do NOT even think of using a 9X6 prop, Your motor will get ruined. Since you are planning to use 2S you can run your motor on 6X4 prop (4.75X4.75 on 3S). This setup can give you 330-380 (approx) gms. of thrust. Make sure you use at least a 25 amp controller, these motors are a bit amp hungry !!!

Thank you sir for the valuable information, i will use 6X4 prop and i have a 30 amp controller which i will use on this.
Will 6X4 prop work on this model, it weighs around 550 grams???

The red plane is one of the fastest and agile plane I have flown. Sorry, I do not have plans for that. I built it as it came along.

According to me the model weight seems to be a bit too much for this motor. For the plane you have built I would suggest you to use a lower Kv motor with a bigger prop!

Thanks for the suggestion. I have another motor i.e: Motor : RCFORALL Brushless 2204 (1400 KV), will this do???  and which amp to use with it???
the total weight of the model including all the parts is 550 grms.

If your model weighs 550g then I would suggest you to use the 2212-13 motor with a 9"~10" prop, you can use the same ESC to power it. This is a good motor for models in the 450~700g range. My friend has this motor (from another manufacturer), using a 9x5 HD gws propeller with a 11.1V lipo, the motor draws about 12A and gives 700g. of thrust!

i just saw the motor you suggested on ebay: RCFORALL BRUSHLESS MOTOR A2212/13 with 1000 KV.
Is this the one you are referring?

What is the cable tie attached to (other than the servo) ? Unfortunately, the photos are not close-up shots, so it is not clear.  Do you pass the cable tie around some piece/part of the wing frame ? Or do you pass it below the bottom sheet of coro ?

Hi Izmile.

The pic you had posted abt the aileron servo, in the grey plane i see that you have not used push rods for rudder and elevator.
I tried to zoom the pic, but it was not clear. But i could see some kind of string attached to the servo.
Can you please explain how it works & how it is done?

I think he is using pull- pull setup on both elevator and Rudder instead of pull- push setup.

A sample rocker horn based aileron schematic. It is a schematic with good detailing (my own handiwork :-) Any faults ur all welcome to point out). Can be used as a basis for CAD reasonable 2d accuracy, if you want to custom make.

The advantages:
  • Only one servo required. Save on your channels
  • You can simplify based on model type. (HighWing/LowWing/MidWing)
  • Better Cg
  • You can get the main rocker horn in the market.

Hey everyone ,
I did not use a cable tie to hold down the servo , Instead i cut out a wooden piece with a hole in between it so the servo could fit in . The coro on the wing , where the servo was supposed to be placed was cut out and the wooden piece was glued down with epoxy . After gluing it , I screwed down the servo . This seems to be a more rigid servo mount for the wing .
