Hello guys,

Prob my first post on forums here, i'm heavily into building jets etc and post a lot of it on rcpowers forums, thought of posting some interesting projects here too.
Always wanted to get a funjet (im ordering one this week)  and i came across a build thread on wattflyer, thought will give that a try first.

There are no proper pdf plans but hand drawn sketch which works fine but just need to carefully align and measure everything, for me it didn take much time and i traced everything directly on the foam sheet. For fuselage i used 8 mm depron & for the main wing i laminated 2x 5mm depron and beveled the leading and trailing edges and tried to sand it like a airfoil shape. I used spray glue for this step. For the fuselage i divided the gluing area into 2. lower half with silicon glue/foam tac which i normally use and the 'upper half' with spray glue so i could sand the spray glued area to a perfect round shape. Photo's attached, it has started looking like Funjet. Will post my updates on this thread.

Wattflyer thread: http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40838
Build plans can be found in the thread link above.

Surprisingly the scratch built model flies exactly like the original funjet (not the ultra i suppose) but ofc it can never close to the real deal  Roll Eyes
Now i actually have skills to fly it real fast and it turned out to be a nice trainer for the actual funjet ultra im buying soon. Cheesy

Hope i did not post in wrong place, kindly advice me if i did.
here are some flight videos.

Will be posting my other builds soon.

Cheers everyone! Smiley

400 grams without battery with all the electronics /  A2212 5T 2700KV Motor. i think motor weighs 70 grams

430 Grams without battery with the Paidiss 3500kv motor and all electronics, the Paidiss seems copy of NTM prop drive 3000kv, i ordered this as i could not find the NTM.

Battery ?  the jet doesn't care, i throw in everything form 1500 3s to heavy 2200 3s 40c  also tried 4s but waiting for new esc to arrive.

with the 3500kv motor i'm using different props. The one in the video is apc 6x4

i also tried 5.5 x 4.3   5.5 x 5.5 speed props from Rcbazaar, so far 6x4 gave maximum performance.

I have actually just now ordered the funjet ultra from rcdhamaka on which i'm planning to do some serious speed.
starting with 3000kv ntm prop drive, 4s set up.

with this scratchbuilt jet iknow the cg location and there is plenty of space in the canopy area for the battery to slide in the nose or backwards to balance the cg. Smiley

Go for it guys!  I flies so so good. Fast and slow both. You take it vertical full throttle at high altitude and cut the motors with full elevator deflection, it will keep gliding forever.
I have actually bought the funjet ultra but i will be building one more and this time i will use same building technique just would cover the entire jet with clear tape for rigidity. Install Metal gear servos, if you are worried about snapping ur servo gears on landing, put the servos on the top, i prefer them on the bottom. Use spray glue for laminating 2 x 5mm biofoam wing cut outs, or you can also use one 10mm biofoam for the main wing, the fins are out of 5mm foam.

All the best, this is the closest u can get to the real funjet  Grin

The pics of that nice smoothly rounded pointy nose in reply #1  Grin
Can you share the name and source of the spray glue you mention?

Oh thank you, i was really surprised and happy how that nose turned out to be aswel.   Grin

This is the spray glue i'm using, however i had bought it to lightly spray printed plans on the biofoam, but i found out another use of it, wherever i need to sand, say for eg 5mm foam i will cover 2.5mm with 'itsy bitsy silicon glue, check this one aswell' and the upper 2.5mm with spray glue, a bit tricky work but when u see the end result after sanding totally worth it. I used same technique for my Gripen build aswell. pls check Shumate JAS 39 Gripen post under electric planes.

Spray Glue : http://www.ebay.in/itm/252593370778?aff_source=Sok-Goog

Please be aware if u spray from very close it will melt the foam. you need to maintain a certain distance, also for the fuselage i used a thicker layer and let it dry for few hours or overnight, next day it was a perfect steady bond. however it may not hold the fuse parts together on a crash hence i use more tougher silicon glue on the lower side.

Used same technique for my Gripen build, u can see the nose cone lamniated by 12 sheets of 5mm foam with the spray glue. Also same with the canopy. Smiley
