VTOL - Vertical Take Off & Landing

hey guys i have started my new project that is multiplex easystar i have finished making all the parts other than the wings as i am thinking of hot wireing it so i am half way through the sanding of the fuse and rudder and elevator have been sanded i am posting the pics of the fuse 25% sanding done i know it doesnot look nice now but wait until you see the real beauty and also it cost me around 500 rupees excluding electronics which i already have it will be the basic rudder elevator plane

here are the pics after 25 % sanding (please bear with me as it will take me time to sand the tail part of the fuse to get it a tubular shape

VTOL - Vertical Take Off & Landing

hey guys just made elevator and rudder
and i am surprised that when i just threw the plane to glide without the wing the model kept on going straight and and glided down without the wings i believe this is going to turn out good but lets keep our hands crossed

the tail might seem to be very brittle but its not also there is a lot of reinforcement not very heavy but a little o help it cope up with the disaster

Cool !

Just wondering if it is pointing down a little too much.  I think the thrust adjustments usually are like 2 or 3 degrees off centre (both down and to the right of the direction in which the air is being pushed).

Oops, I think I said "down" instead of "up"  Shocked

It is pointing up a little too much, compared to level of  the tail (or direction of flight/fuselage).  In any case, just follow the offset requirements for thrust cancellation, and readjust as necessary.  Final adjustments might be needed in the field so carry whatever material you use for adjustments with you (like toothpicks, or extra pieces of foam etc).

hey guys completed the plane today just about now only part left is sand the other half of the wing and about 10 % fuse. then i am ready to put in electronics. tomorrow i shall hinge and fix the plane up completely and start with electronics assembly have a look at the following pics still a lot sanding need to be done at the nose cone to make it get the perfect shape. so enjoy the pics and always suggestions are welcome and also i have changed a few things in the plane which i shall reveal after the first flight.

how i made the polyhydral just use your hairdryer

May i suggest

1. The vertical fin should have been an extension of one of the laminate sections that the fuse is made of.

2. Fuse looks a bit weak (or may be too rounded/sanded) at the middle. Maybe embed a CF tube or balsa spar along the length of the fuse.

3. It may be sufficient to simply round the corners every where vs. sanding the fuse to shape.

4. Wrap the whole fuse with 3M clear tape. Apply the tape length-wise on the fuse and wrap it around near the nose.

5. The motor mount area should ideally be laminated with balsa for strength.

6. May be a good idea to make the wing in sections - shape smaller sections and then butt-join them. So that you can make the air foil more precisely than making one long one.

7. Is the wing a little thin and of lesser chord than whats prescribed? I don't know the dimensions of the easy star

VTOL - Vertical Take Off & Landing

hi tg here are the answers to your questions there are five carbon rods running all the way from the nose to the tail and four from wing tip to wingtip. the fuselage is not yet stuck together with  epoxy so when every thing is done it might look stronger. for the motor mount area thanks for the tip i shall do it immediately. the first part is something i did not know i.e the vertical fin part and also the manual has them as different section anyway i will rebuild it. for the tape i was about to use scotch brand clear tape.

for the airfoil i have used the sand the whole thing method as i could get a clean and nice airfoil your idea will be tried out in the later versions as wings have been sanded also for any imperfections i use my mysterious cream to get it perfect.

actually the wings thickness is correct as i referred to atul bhaiya's easy star for the dimensions

oh and one more thing is that i have heard that easy star can taxi is it using the rudder and the airflow due to pusher config please suggest.

thanks a lot tg as i have really learnt a lot from your valuable suggestions and keep suggesting who know i might give it away for free (may be after it has flown and is approved as begginer level). i am thinking of testing it with pramod bhaiya and then give it to the hands of a complete begginer and see how it turns out.

hey guys everything is held by toothpicks for the pic as i was short of epoxy or hot glue

The problem with sanding a long stretch is that the same pressure and orientation is not guaranteed along the length. So you will end up with a smooth but "wavy" surface. You may make a sanding "bar" which can be used to shape longer surfaces. You may use thin ply in place of balsa also, if you can get thin ply.

Hey  Subu ,
Good to see you using  non flying time due to rains to build , that is  great .
Most people seem to think that only flying is aero modeling but I believe that  building your own models is what aero modeling is all about .
I am strong build and fly type .
