Title: tricopter setup help!!!
Post by: karan3_k on March 20, 2012, 11:44:24 PM
i m new to multicopter, i am making tricopter using hk-kk board (green).
connection n gryro reverse, set, while chacking holding in hand, motor compensate in all right direction...
esc calibrated...

no mixing on transmitter... (turnigy 9x)...

but after mounting props when i try to give on throttle.... tricopter leans forward...

using all same props (till i know it wont mater, yaw mechanism takes care of it... i tested it holding in hands it wont spin)...

all it happen is it leans forward...  :banghead:
i want to make it go straigt up.....

any seniors pls guide me where i m going wrong  :headscratch:

pics n video posted to make me clear...

Is your tri balanced?
You need to balance it so that CG is at the center of frame. Try applying some trims
Also try applying some dual rates and expos. they will make controlling smooth.

From video I can see that your motors don't start simultaneously. I guess you need to calibrate your ESCs first. Follows all the instructions here http://www.kkmulticopter.kr/index.html?modea=manual

Do you have any experience of flying heli or plane? if not then try to get in touch with some who could be able to fly it for you.

Hey karan bro if this is your final setup you have to work a lot on your frame. It requires extreme accuracy. Even 1mm of offset can make huge difference. You have to correct things one by one. If you have 1% doubt, don't leave it. Later it will multiply. I am working on my quad from last 5 months. It took this much of time to understand what exactly this thing lol. They are like small kid. They will wait for your mistake and then bang. We have an interview with channel narmada but had to postpone it 1-2 times. I flew it 50-70 times in my house. Took videos of them and corrected things.
Please also calibrate esc individually. They don't start all together.

thnx splitfire, i tried all your steps, but still nt able to get the prob.
i rebuild the frame but it wont helpd much..

and ya i had spend some time with planes...
and a lot on simulator- where everything worked according to me...

but making a multicopter is making me mad  :banghead:

and ya, does center of gravity plays a big role????
i mean kk board cant balance the frame???

@satyagupta
i m using pvc sheet for making
base-3.5mm (one used in making pvc door- easy to cut, dont bend n very light)

for mounting motor using U shaped aluminium rods (a hardware stuff- anothher light material)

and what u r asking landing stand is made of acralic sheet 3mm ( looks like glass, very hard, dont bend, bt bit heavy)

and for fitting stuff using technix kit which i used to play engineer-engineer in chhild hood... lol

am i going wrong some where pics attached...

karan C.G. plays role but if there is small error you can correct it using trim but yours seems way out of trim. You can put long tail boom, i saw on rcg. You can maintain cg by battery placement.

@ dharmik
this little thing is nuts...

i'd dismantle everythng after hitting my head full day for 2 weeks...

wil decide later abt making it again...

and i want to see ur quad... befor narmada channel i wuld like to take ur interview  ... :-D...
may b sumthng strike in my mind from ur quad....

yup bro and i would like to clear few thing that was also confusing me.
1. Reversing gyro won't change stick direction. For example if your board arms by lower right side then after reversing gyro it will be same as before after yaw gyro reverse.
2. Gyro pots and gyro compensate reverse are two different things.
If your tx, setup, hardware everything is perfect then you have to check gyro compensation.

every thing works great in my hands... it compensate perfectly...

but on ground it just go mad... u have seen video...

i would like to see ur quad, if u dnt mind??... next weekends if posible...

hey folks...
i made new super rigid frame...
center of gravity balanced... lies exactly below intersection of lines passing through roll & pitch gyro on kk board.

but still motors still dont co-operate...

i guess problem is with battery, after certain throttle one moter (tail) goes very slow, or stops.

i m using turnigy 2200mah 25C 3s batry (35c burst). n 1100kv motors n 18amps esc...

is it really this battry??  :headscratch: shuould i go for more mah/discharge batry??
pl suggest me some solution...  :help:

Battery seems OK unless go for full throttle.
Make sure your ESCs are calibrated. Try to calibrate each ESC separately and then connect it to the board.
Also make sure non of your gyro is zero or full before powering the board.

Have you checked each motor individually without connecting it to board?

I think you need to [according to priority] (i) calibrate the ESCs (ii) balance the props and (iii) build the perfect frame.

i mean kk board cant balance the frame???

Of course, the kk board IS meant to do that, but only to some extent.

Karan bro is your ESC programable? Change battery mode from lipo to ni-mh. One of the necessary thing for any multirotor.

TY all mates.. i was about to buy a new battery....

i dnt knw what prob was... but i changed tail motor... replaced a new one...
and eureka!!!!!!!  : 8)

my tricopter now flies!!!
well its still baby bird learning to fly, its oscillates, need to set gyro gain, but well it flies!!!

thnks every1..

spcly dharmik bhai.... if u were here... i wuld have kissed you!!!  lol...
thnks :hatsoff:

That's great mate. Nice to hear from you. I wonder that it was nothing but motor!
Second and hard part starts now, to learn flying multis. It was tough for me but i have so many videos to share. I am really impressed with these machines. I have rebuilt my 1st one and going build 2nd soon. Wish to fly together someday, somewhere.

first flight video- a lot unstable, but it flies finally!!!!

Congrats for your flight!

Gyro gains seem high. That is why tricopter is oscillating.
Lower the gyro gains till oscillations stop.

Awesome mate, really wonderful. It seems really unstable but you handled it very well. You are really lucky that you have common plot near your house.

thank you splitfire & dharmik...

n dharmik ya but that plot has lots of cable which crashed it!!!

it fell from about 3 floor height...
will never again fly there

Yeah this things are really unpredictable. You inspired me to post some indoor funny videos. I am updating them in my thread.

great Job man!

did you calibarate each ESC individual?

ya bro...
i saw your video... coz of indistinct view... i m nt ble to make out ur esc...

but wit my ss 18 amp...
i m nt able to completely synchronize all three... there is always 19-20...
well at first till 20%throttle almost 1 motor is off...

but at around 50-60... when it is about to take off... all motor moves as espected...

while take off need to balance it manualy by giving ail/ele a bit...

which mode r u using on tx?
try using areoplane mode..

and while on ground during take off first give 20-25% throttle... and then balance movement by moving ail/elel stick...

i mean to say if your tail motor is going slow... give elevator front.... same wit ali.

not sure...
but in my case... it is balanced...
n flies smooth..

first try
trim..
mode to airplane (it should not matter, but it worked)
balancing by sricks...
