Title: UPGRADING GROUND STATION TO A MORE PROFESSIONAL SETUP
Post by: sundaram on April 07, 2013, 11:46:02 AM
My Ground station till date was only functionally doing great but not much to look at. decided to upgrade the same to a more professional setup. The present setup was catering for both 900 Mhz as well as 5.8 Ghz. I was using for both Rangevideo as well as Eagle tree.

It had the Laptop in the same GCS for Recording as well as for telemetry.

Now decided to separate the Laptop to a different box and further make two different GCS seperate for 900 Mhz and 5.8 Ghz and one with Rangevideo Diversity/telemetry and other with Eagle tree  diversity/telemetry.

The present Setup

It would have been nice if I could have interchanged the location of Diversity/antenna tracker and Digital recorder with that of the goggle box, but the Antenna tracker is taking power supply from balance connector of the same  Lipo. So it is there for now may be later i might rearrange as they are just stuck in place with velcro.

Sandy sir, I'm drooling over that setup. You might find this funny, and silly perhaps, but I modded my drum throne into something that can mount your GCS very well, while giving 360 degree turn around motion. will send you some pictures soon :D. Long way before I get into FPV, but just doing the preparations.

Title: Re: UPGRADING GROUND STATION TO A MORE PROFESSIONAL SETUP
Post by: sundaram on May 16, 2013, 09:29:43 AM
Thanks Girish.
More to come are the antenna tracking mount setup, live telemetry tracking on Map.

The rangevideo antenna tracker has nice provisions of display of telemetry like lat& lon, model range and height, model voltage and amperage and mah consumed, GCS voltage all on the LCD of antenna tracker. Full telemetry is recorded on the micro SD. Further coupled with a laptop and any GCS software one can access, track live and record full telemetry.

When gauravag comes here next week we are going to have loads of fun doing formation flying.

My 5.8 Ghz Ground Station with Eagletree Diversity & antenna tracker with both Rangevideo & Fatshark Receiver. The 7" LCD is from Satyagupta. Both the Goggle and Digital Recorder can be moved to this easily since the provisions have been left for it.

Today My GCS gets an upgrade of Scratch built Circular polarized directional antenna IB Crazy 10dbi Cross Hair for 900 Mhz band (channel 1010Mhz) and 1.2 Ghz Band (Channel 1160 Mhz).

Now I will have to definitely almost always fly with my 2 Watts Booster on the radio.

Post by: sundaram on June 27, 2013, 08:12:19 AM
Thanks Pravesh. 0.9mm copper alloy wire.  Recovered from Dish TV antenna wire center conductor.  :) the mig wire I have is 0.8mm its less than the min dia for a cross  hair of 900 I suppose.

Will use that for 1.3 Ghz

thank you Sir, you should make pepper box next for the 1.3 ;D. even im planning to make cl and spw for 1.3 once i reach bangalore.

Its on the cards, both pepper box and Gatling Antenna. I will make them as and when I reach the required range of flying for those antennas. I need to make models which can out reach those antennas before that.  :)

Apart from the RF cable used, everything else on the antenna are scrap, recovered materials.

Even Chinese Chops sticks came real handy  ;D

That's also a 900Mhz Band FPV Receiver old version from Rangevideo.

Nothing fancy it has additional provision to monitor all four channels of 900 Mhz, switching in a loop in a fixed interval of time set, like a security Cam monitor.

Some day I will dump that and go for all band latest receivers covering 900, 1200, 1300 and additional freq in Mhz band with saw filter.  :)

I have lot of questions :D

You have mentioned something about eagle eyes. i was reading about it yesterday and its used for telemetry/OSD (am i correct)

i am going to use MegaPilot NG on MWC AIO Pro v2.0 with 433Mhz Telemetry radio and MinimOSD so would i need that eagle eyes?

Title: Re: UPGRADING GROUND STATION TO A MORE PROFESSIONAL SETUP
Post by: sundaram on February 03, 2014, 11:48:11 PM
Eagle Eyes is an antenna tracker and diversity to be used only with Eagle tree OSD. If you are using a 433 Telemetry then you can get telemetry directly at the PC and track directly on any Compatible GCS GUI Software with full telemetry.

Title: Re: UPGRADING GROUND STATION TO A MORE PROFESSIONAL SETUP
Post by: satyagupta on February 04, 2014, 10:43:52 AM
I am planning to use mission planner on my tablet or a laptop.

So in that case i would be not require those eagle eye thing right?

Title: Re: UPGRADING GROUND STATION TO A MORE PROFESSIONAL SETUP
Post by: sundaram on February 04, 2014, 12:24:11 PM
I am not sure if Mission Planner is compatible with Multiwii. Multiwii has its own GUI Software. Yes you will not require Eagle eyes ( Cannot be used) with either of the setup.

Eagle tree and Eagle eye setup uses the video signal to superimpose the Telemetry data on the same, which is separated at the Eagle eye apart from doing other features like video Diversity, antenna tracking, recording of telemetry and interface for PC GCS.

Mission Planner is not compatible with MWC but it is compatible with MegaPirateNG which we can load in MWC AIO controller.
