Post by: ujjwaana on May 31, 2010, 09:14:24 PM
Now I am feeling cheated!! I bought the mini cam for $19 And now HK has TOTALLY revolutionalzed FPV by offering THE cheapest FPY kit of all times

1. 1/3" Sensor Sony CCD Camera
2. 1.2GHz 200mW 4CH video Transmitter
3. 1.2Ghz , 12CH Video Rx
4 $49 + $13 Shipping (500g)

WOWWWWW!! 1.2GHz means people using 2.4GHz Tx/Rx dont need to fear of interference at ALL!!

KUDOS!!

Wouldn't 1.2Ghz being in the harmonic range (direct multiplier) of 2.4Ghz cause some issues :headscratch:

Correct !!! 1.2Ghz is a direct multiplier of 2.4Ghz and same harmonics. There may be some interference using 1.2 with 2.4

Hence, more people are moving towards 860Mhz and 900Mhz FPVs

The other band 5.8 G which is de licensed as well is worth a look. We just received  a lot in 5.8 G  but have just 1 left.

ps

i had a fpv set with a transmitter and receiver camera with me last year let me search if i have it or not it was meant for house watching or something it worked on a 9 v battery but range was tooooooooooooooooo less

When it comes to serious FPV the  equipment has to be good , I have  tried all the way from these kind of Tx Rx  and  have now finalized  at a set up that is stable in excess of 1 - 1.5 km .
Will be testing  distance beyond this  shortly .
Anything below 500 mw is a serious handicap when it comes to FPV.

When you are talking serious FPV brands and quality is critical.

Yes Vineet,

FPV stands for "First Person View" which means as if you were driving the car / plane. FPV usually consist of a small video camera, pan and tilt mechanism, transmitter (for transmitting audio and video), receiver, power source, and the display on which you get the video (small LCD screen or LCD glasses).

So, when you drive the vehicle, the camera transmits whatever it sees LIVE to the receiver. you may connect an LCD screen (like in cars) to the receiver to see the display. (its a real time video transmission from the vehicle to the receiver) This setup is called FPV.

the power of the transmitter would usually decide the range of the transmission.

@Anwar,
Can you please provide any link to some knowledge article on FPV for Vineet.

 x SONY CCD 1/3inch Camera
1 x 900Mhz  4 channel Video Transmitter (200mW)
1 x 900Mhz  12 channel Video Receiver

how far it can transmit and does it effect 2.4 transmission

900Mhz should co-exist with 2.4Ghz, without major issues.

200mW is quite a bit of power, considering most good radios are 10mW to 100mW (mostly 100mW), and a large number of them have a range of around 1km.

PS: I have no personal experience with FPV gear.

When there is no interference between one 2.4 GHz set and another, why should there be a problem between 1.2 & 2.4 GHz?

issue is not till solved . they have not mentioned the range  and i realy cant get that if  mw is directly proportion to range. means the high the mw the higher the range  ???????

ppl... u kno wot.. hobbyking just changed the 1.2ghz to 900mhz... no 1.2ghz now...

Yesterday morning i checked, 1.2ghz was listed now suddenly its 900mhz... and they are out of stock already!!! So Sad...

200mW is quite a bit of power, considering most good radios are 10mW to 100mW (mostly 100mW), and a large number of them have a range of around 1km.

Power alone does not determine the range. The data rate (and hence bandwidth) of a radio is much smaller compared to video. With the same power you'll get lower range for a higher data rate. Take the example of a wifi router. They also have a similar power but you definitely don't get 1km range. And you can clearly see the throughput reducing as the distance increases.

With WiFi routers, bandwidth is one reason for reduced range. The other - and significant one - is the absorption of the signal by walls, etc.

The range would be much more in "open air".

Post by: anwar on June 02, 2010, 01:16:03 PM
Yes, bandwidth reduces range. But the other consideration when you compare with WiFi routers is that they tend to have much more bandwidth (even with 802.11b) than what is needed for a single video + audio link.

PS: I have no personal experience with FPV gear.

Video broadcast needs a lot of 'Bandwidth' (band) and thus require more power than our Tx which work on much narrower band. But all in all, 200mW would be more than enough unless you want a cross country flight like Sai Anna!

About Harmonics, which I intended to put as PS: in my first post itself but slipped my mind, is a phenomenon base oscillator frequency resonating and generating Arithmetic progression of itself like if you generate 400MHz, you would get 800, 1200, 1600 ... MHz frequencies. There are several 'Low Pass' filters applied in such circuit to attenuate such 'Harmonics' but total elimination is almost impossible. Thus when you send a modulate the Video signal at 1.2GHz, same is transmitted at frequencies 2.4, 4.8, 9.7 GHz as well, and in our our case , 2.4GHz Radio Controller signals also get interfered.

Great news that HC actually offering a 900MHz FPV... our 2.4GHz Tx would be much resilient from any interference from them.

Hello Sai uncle,
Did you get to test your setup. Could you please tell me the actual range you were able to get. I also checked your
online store website and saw the tx with output power 200mW, what is the ground range of the system as many people in this post are saying that 200mW is equivalent to around 1-1.5 km.

If there is any other system available which can provide range upto 1.5km could you please mail me the details of specification and cost.

Thank You.

Hi Friends !!!

Just ordered a new 900MHZ 1500mW Tx/Rx & 1/3-inch CCD Camera PAL FPV setup from HK.

Had been eying this for long, but it was in backorder for quite sometime. Just came in stock. Hopefully the customs will not create problems. ;D Fingers Crossed. :-X

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=13436

Will post the performance of the system with videos once I test it. :) Hopefully the range should be quite decent with a 1.5W transmission. (should not get much interference) Lets hope for the best.

Cheers !!!

Is 900mhz ok in india? Will it not interfere with mob frequency? I have 2.4ghz Radio, so thinking which one to buy.

In general GSM Networks use frequency range from 850 to 960 Mhz. Source: http://www.en.wikipedia.com/wiki/GSM_frequency_ranges
This TX use 0.980G,1.010G,1.040G - hence it should not interfere with GSM Network.

Infact even I fly on 2.4Ghz, thats why I bought the 900Mhz band FPV

Can we buy 1.2ghz also then. I am planning to buy this? Sunsky doesnt have 900Mhz

Yes you may buy 1.2Ghz, but since 1.2 GHz is in the same harmonics of 2.4 (direct multiplier) there may be some interference on the 2.4Ghz band as well. It is rather safe to be sorry :) Hence I opted for 900Mhz band.

Seems to be using everything including stabilization.  Now all it needs is a chase plane and embedded PIP ("picture-in-picture") video of plane itself ;D

Tried this in a life size simulator, Very disorientating, since your vestibular organs are telling you, your are not moving and your eyes tell you, you are. this conflicting info can even make you fall, throw up etc.

Bottom line, takes the challenge out of the RC flg. (Control reversals and perceptual flg, two biggest challenges, i guess).

yup happy and glad it made it. :) For the monitor, I have a portable media player with TV input. Will use that for time being. Later may upgrade to Fatshark or FOX goggles. I am still waiting for the high resolution eyewear to get cheaper :D

Not as of now. I may buy the OSD setup along with Navigation module later, once I have tested the FPV system thoroughly.
