MICROSTAR 2000

hi guys

this is for all the DIY kind or people on budget  Tongue

i made a elevon mixer for my flying wing glider( thanks to raghavan for cutting the wings ),i don't have a computer radio at ( still being build ) so for the time being i added this feature to my old trusty radio ( futaba AM attack 4 ).

this is not my own design , i got it from the net and this is one of the best free source mixer designs . see the link  below!

1.http://ilufa.orgfree.com/MIXER_E.htm

2.mixer setup information !

http://ilufa.orgfree.com/MIXER_E1.htm

parts that u require to complete the built are

SETUP 1

1. 16F84A                             --- micro controllers
2. 4MHZ crystal                      --- only if u plan to build the mixer using 16F84A IC , like i did
3. 0.1uF                                --- disc capacitor, one required
4. 33pF                                 --- disc capacitor , two required
5. dip switch                          --- 2 pin
6. small vero board or PCB
7. IC base                              --- depend on which IC you are going to use 18pin or 8pin !!!
8. servo connectors male          --- two required
9. straight header                    --- 40 pin male strip
10. misc                                 --- solder wire , soldering iron , multimeter , wires etc.

SETUP 2

1. 12C508A or 12C509A            --- micro controllers
2. 0.1uF                                --- disc capacitor, one required
3. dip switch                          --- 2 pin
4. small vero board or PCB
5. IC base                              --- depend on user n which IC you are going to use 18pin or 8pin !!!
6. servo connectors male          --- two required
7. straight header                    --- 40 pin male strip
8. misc                                 --- solder wire , soldering iron , multimeter , wires etc.

total cost varies from 120/- to 60/- for 16F84A and 12C508/9 respectively.

and important of all is a PIC micro controller programmer, for this u can either buy one locally or from USA or build your own,
JDM 2 ( serial port ) is a very good programmer, i have built it and works plus easy to set up!!!, try Google for it and if u guys need any help programming or setting up the software let me know (PM or mail)

here is a commercial programmer i got from USA ( USB port ), look for k 128 kit

http://www.ozitronics.com/

if u feel this is getting to messy for you, i can program the chip and send it for free of charge !!! ( just programming )
rest you  guys can build.

see the youtube video, note the video was take in setup 1 and weighed 19gram and here are some pictures

Great Thumbs Up

Any plans to shrink wrap it (I guess you will need to cut out a window for the DIP switches) ?

It protects from short circuits, any weather issues, and fuel/oil in case of nitro models (depending on where they are used).

MICROSTAR 2000

Final note:

this V-tail mixer has 4 modes of operation in which one can select the percentage of mixing between channels 1,2

switch 1    2    channel 1       2  (servo travel is given in percentage to radio stick movement)

      off    off      100%        100%
      off     on     100%         50%
      on    off      50%          100%
      on     on      50%          50%

please see the picture on how to connect the servo to the mixer and the black plastic casing will not directly plug to the receiver it either has to be replaced with proper servo casing or trim the units to fit the receiver!

For brushed or brush-less-ESC with built-in 5volt BEC and putting out more that 5.5volts or 5.5volts please insert a diode in series with positive wire or red color wire ! see picture or better use an extension with above modification.

Please note: V-tail mixer will not work at 5.5volts because the programing/verification/fuse were tested for 5volts operation only!

V.C has reported that the V-tail mixer is not functioning at 5.5volts (thanks for pointing out)!

Has anyone etched a board for this mixer?
I'd like to build some of these boards but the lack of an etched side of the board is holding me back.

IF you already have rs232 pic programmer and need/use USB then it will work otherwise NO.

Should work but check your fuse settings and don't burn code with one time write.  Smiley
