Let us make this interesting Wink ... why does it always keep flying in a circle ?  How is the radius of the circle fixed/determined ?

High spirits we have: gravity we flout.

I have made rubber band powered plane long time ago. And for what i know if all the control surfaces are flat and square the radius increases as the rubber band unwinds in flight. The flight starts with a tight circle and gradually ending in a almost straight glide. This is due to the torque created by the prop.

Anwar,
It needs to fly in a circle. Imagine a FF model flying in a straight line for a duration of say 8-10 minutes, I am sure you would require a real big piece of land to keep the model from landing up in some one elses property and the flyer would need a powered means of transport to every time retrieve the model.
Though it is meant to fly in a circle a model may not behave as intended plus the effects of wind and thermals still carry models over large distances. That is the reason you will always find bicycles and other powered two wheelers at a free flight metting as means of retreiving the model.

Coming to proper F1D, this is meant to be an indoor duration event, where the models are flown indoor and points awarded for max time aloft. The reason for models being trimmed to fly in circles is pretty much same as for outdoor free flight, the circle keeps the height and distances in check while giving the best tradeoff for time aloft.

To the original querry from Kalyan, I have seen articles on making film out of dope by floating a layer of dope on water but never tried it. But I beleive before the advent of modern materials this was the preferred method for covering on micro indoor free flight models

I thought multiple people in Bangalore were doing this, from Rajesh/RotorZone's comments a while ago.
