Here’s the background. I was talking to someone knowledgeable about such materials (a friend and aeromodeller since childhood). He visited me this last weekend, and brought some CF sheets he made for me. (He’s not an amateur, he has a composites manufacturing company) He’s been persuading me to build a fuselage in CF instead of balsa. He recently build a pod and boom fuselage in CF (wing cores from Gaurav Agarwal of Vortex-rc) I Googled Carbon Fibre Sheet, and found on Amazon that 300/100/1 mm sheet cost over Rs 3000! That’s 12”x4”, or about Rs 60 per sqin! That’s VERY expensive. Attached is a pic of the sheets. If there is a demand, I’ll work out prices and post on the Sales Board. There is plenty on requirement for CF sheets or tubes in India and also CF engraving. Posting them in sales board would really benefit many enthusiasts who are interested in building UAV frames out of CF. One of my friend is actually looking for both sourcing and engraving of CF sheets. I will post him the same. If the prices are in comparable(~50% more) than Chinese websites then that would be profitable in India. Thanks for your response. Since I’m only into fixed wing airplanes, I didn’t realise that UAV frames means parts for quads and hexacopters! What is it that drone builders need in carbon fibre? Arms for quads/hexas, centre pieces, and undercarriage legs? Or just plain rigid sheets of 1,2,3mm ? What’s engraving? Cutouts in parts? Thanks for your interest and help. Yeah I meant multi rotors only. A racing quad(200 to 250mm) is almost completely made of CF sheets of varying thickness. Arms are made mostly from 5mm sheets. Centre plate made of 2 to 3 mm sheets. If the person you are talking about makes tubes then that would be an advantage for bigger size quads from ~450mm and above. Round tubes are most welcome. Centre plates of bigger size quads is also made from 1.5/2mm CF sheet mostly. Motor mounts are also made from the same. So I was thinking if the same person makes CF tubes also he/they can become one point contact for most required materials for custom multi rotor builders. Even Tubes are very expensive in India, and they sell pultruded ones, which are no good. Need the proper woven type tubes, 14-16mm dia ones. Try to ask him if he makes those as well. If Cutting/engraving is needed, I have access to an abrasive waterjet cutter but need to enquire about the pricing, but it would be cheaper than market, as it is provided by my college. 2 are about 1mm thick, one is 1.5 or 2mm. A friend made these for me, but I don’t have any use for them currently. On Amazon I see 30x10 cm of 1mm sheet costing Rs 3000. That’s Rs 10/sqcm. That makes one of my sheets worth Rs 15,640! That’s crazy. So if someone tells me what the true market price for a 1mm CF sheet is, I could offer a significant discount... Told him that every piece he throws away may be worth Rs 100. He is sending me a few more sheets. I see that small pieces of CF sheet are quite expensive. I think my friend could provide at much lower price. This is not his main line of business. He just makes some for his own hobby needs. But he’d make some at my request. I don’t know who needs carbon fibre, in what thickness, and what size. So if you need CF sheets, tell me the thickness and size. And the price you’re paying now. If there’s enough response, maybe we could do something!
