RC India

Can someone please advise what is the most common CF rod/tube (dimensions) that is used to strengthen the wings of park flyers. I am thinking of going in for 3mm tubes (inside dia 2 mm), is it a good idea? Or do we really need solid rods?

Just take  the length of the tube.... equal to the wing span... and if for that length of tube it does not flex by its own weight..its strong enough for your purpose.

i am successfully using a 4mm solid cf tube for a 37 inch wing span.

I am using the same 3-2mm hollow tube for my 21" WS F-22 and I guess I can go till 32" WS with the same CF rods.
There is hardly any weight in the CF rods, so I would suggest you go for solid ones instead.  found the square ones much easy to apply and they provide more contact surface compared to circular rods.

Both RCD and Sai have them. Buy in bulk of different sizes and the entire deal would be cost effective as transportation is the most tricky part.

I wonder why just every one from HC to RCD use container tubes made of carton to ship CF rods, when thye are knows to break in transport. I am keeping my CF rod inventory in a 3" dia PVC pipes used in drains - it costed me Rs 80 with two stoppers. Wonder if they can break even at the hands of Indian Ponst and Telegraph guys (poor chaps ferry on bicycles  :salute:  :( )

Curious... do you guys know where to get Carbon Fiber or Glass fiber sheets too? looking for 1.5mm and 2.5mm sheets.

And.... noob question... who is Mr Sai?

rcdhamaka is your go to guys as far as quality Cf & Balsa is concerned, you may have to wait though

Yea ive been in contact with the latter Sai, was gonna hire him for a couple of projects, and then my silly clients didnt bite bait.
He was once kind enough to send me couple of batteries in a hurry on NYE absolutely last minute, I owe him one for that! Refused to even take extra money for the last minute run around. Nice kid, dont know about his business sense tho!

Dear VC,
I have never used CF Tubes but have seen friends using them.  I find Balsa spars to be more convenient as all you need to do is take a sheet of required thickness and cut them for your own needs.  They are lighter than CF and wor really well... For the last model shown in my pictures...  a 4 feet span model the balsa spars are made out of a 4mm sheet and are six mm wide.  For the new model I am making a 1 metre span model it is made of a 3 mm blasa sheet and will be 5 mm wide.  All are made of soft blasa sheets and placed one on the bottom of the aerofoil and one on the top of the aerofoil.  Then the entire aerofoil is covered with tape / vinyl sheet.  It gives great strength.  The spars can be joined to the foam by fevicol.  Try it once and you will also like it.
