Title: Coro reinforcement Post by: setsun on May 08, 2009, 05:13:37 PM Hi Folks,
I am building my first spad with Coro. For reinforcement, I intend to use wooden skewers. Where do I buy it in Chennai? I tried at Nilgiris and they gave me a "say-that-again?" look. ??? . I would appreciate if you could let me know where I can buy wooden skewers. Thanks in advance. cheers Arun Title: Re: Coro reinforcement Post by: ashok on May 08, 2009, 05:37:56 PM have you tried at any florist?
Generally they have bamboo sticks, They will be better reinforcements. Even I am starting my spad using coro. which model you are building? and can you please share step by step pictures and instructions too? I will put the same after I start, ;D Title: Re: Coro reinforcement Post by: ashok on May 08, 2009, 05:39:59 PM Hey man you are from chennai!!! Mr.Sai is there he is a pro in this coro model.

Also I will check with florist for Bamboo sticks My initial thought was to buy few meters of cane ( used for making cane furniture ) to join the spad wings. Wing span is 40" ( 20 + 20 ). Would that work? Or should I go for a carbon fiber pipe? Any thoughts? Thanks again. Arun Title: Re: Coro reinforcement Post by: tg on May 09, 2009, 10:11:04 AM Cane will be heavier and rarely will you get one thats straight as an arrow for the purpose of re-inforcement. A carbon tube or pipe or even the flat CF strips will be much much better. RCFORALL also sells square tubes if you want to try those.
Title: Re: Coro reinforcement Post by: Sahevaan on May 09, 2009, 10:27:00 AM i think carbon fibre rods would be the best re-enforcement!!
Title: Re: Coro reinforcement Post by: izmile on May 09, 2009, 04:25:04 PM Also I will check with florist for Bamboo sticks If you are looking of bamboo sticks trimmed down to thin sticks then its better to have a look at kite shops. In chennai you have lots of kite shops at Seven Wells (Mint area), Old Washermanpet (Vannarapattai).. Ask for "Kathadi Baddhai" and they will show you a wide variety of that. I used to get a lot of that for different purposes. Another way is to buy a large kite and tear off the bamboo sticks from it. -Ismail Title: Re: Coro reinforcement Post by: setsun on May 11, 2009, 09:50:09 AM Thank you folks!
I found skewers in Currimbhoys @ Evening Bazar. Thanks again for your suggestion. As for joining the wings, I am using 4mm carbon fiber tube . I have joined the wings, slid the skewers along the flute for reinforcement. Hoping for a maiden this Sunday. Thanks again Arun Title: Re: Coro reinforcement Post by: gotoyogesh007 on May 11, 2009, 10:30:27 PM I really don't know much about what you have mentioned here in this thread about skewers, instead i used 3MM CF tubes for my first CORO project, you get clean finish and excellent strength if you see my model Wing span should be more than 50inch,i used 3 CF tubes which goes right into the groves so you don't have to even think of cutting grooves etc etc..... {:)} less of heart ache and clean finish
