Cost of transporting this to Guwahati is proving to be prohibitive. Just checked with Overnite and they will charge Rs.1000/- to courier 10 sheets. Package dimension would work out to 100 cm X 50 cm X 10 cm.

Any other solutions? :headscratch:

Thank you all for giving me a hint that DADAR is the place where you can find anything!!

Title: Request
Post by: VC on January 20, 2010, 10:04:34 PM
I have searched high and low and have not been able to locate any Depron/Zepron/Biofoam sellers in Guwahati or Kolkata. Probably they don't exist, and then again, maybe they do..... :headscratch:

I would request someone to send me a small sample of Depron 5mm or 6mm (for that matter, any thickness will do) so that I can show it around to the shopkeepers during my exasperating hunts! Even a tiny piece 3 inches by 3 inches will do. So far, I have not been able to explain what I am looking for. I have tried snipping off Picnic Disposable plates and carrying the samples with me but to no avail.

If anybody is willing to help out, PM me and I will let you have my mailing address, you can send it to me by ordinary mail. Courier charges not required.

Thanks!

VC

@sandeepm...did you purchase laminated 5mm sheets from the same shop??

I have laminated ones and they suck pretty bad >:(. Wont bend and break easily and are brittle. Avoid them if they are brittle and wont bend. Slightly press and bend and feel them before you buy.

Depron and bio foam are the same. Or are almost same.

Has anyone got addresses of all the outlets of biofoam in india.  Below is the address of the company which is manufacturing biofoam disposables and biofoam sheets for Industrial Use.

BIOPAC INDIA CORPORATION LIMITED
Corporate & Regd. Office :

India.
E MAIL :- info@biopacindia.com
TELEPHONE :- (91-22) 26708645 / 26711897
FAX :- (91-22) 26280556
Plant : Plant: Survey No.38, Khanvel Road
Dapada Village, Silvasa – 396230,
Dadra & Nagar Haveli (U.T).
India.
Tel No. (91-260) 6452733.
Fax No.(91-260) 2699488.

I had contacted them, however they were not interested in shipping small quantity of sheets which is required for a aeromodeller enthusiast. They were interested in shipping a truck load only.

Any LHS interested in stocking and selling to aeromodellers like us?

Are there any stockist /reseller around Jhansi, Bhopal, Gwalior, lucknow?

Sai can ship it anywhere in India I am sure.

See if these images help to get the stuff wherever you are.....;
This is unfinished which is best for aeromodelling but also comes as laminated both sides. The laminated tend to be shiny, minimum 6mm thick and heavy.

Here is a plane made out of 6mm sprayed with foam safe (ACRYLIC CAR PAINT) again Sai has the templates of this too.

http://www.hornetsmfc.co.uk/

Bongo is an EPP indoor 'contraption' not dissimilar to a mini ifo. The mini ifo is a little difficult to come by in Blighty as no one appears to sell it any more, so the Bongo may well be its natural successor. It looks different. It may well be indestructible (which we'll find out later in the month), but it also looks great fun. It's supplied by Flying Wings as either a kit or Super deal which includes all the parts you need bar the battery, servo, and receiver, and all for under £40.
Given the economic downturn, the price of fuel, and a shed full up with planes, its small enough to keep in the house without being told off. You could almost get away with using it as a place mat.
So how easy is it to put together?
It took a couple of leisurely evenings to complete. Being EPP foam there are a few methods to bonding bits together. There's the UHU Por route, or hot glue. It also accepts certain super glues but you will need to try a scrap piece first. The hinges for the elevons and rudder in my case are hot glue hinges; the rudder having the added advantage of having teacake crumbs in it as it was the only knife I had to hand....
The hot glue hinges do appear to be strong enough although there may be some fine tuning required. In order to keep its rigidity there is a carbon fibre hoop on its underside which was attached using Uhu Por and left to set for two hours. This has the added benefit of providing a nice front bumper so that I can plough into those nasty helicopters, shoot them down in a ball of flames, and continue on my merry way.
The same can also be said of all those Kyosho miniums. I didn't plump for the Super deal as I already had a spare brushless motor and speed controller, so Bongo is set up with an 8x4 prop, GWS 4 channel receiver, and three 9g servos from Giantcod. Power is supplied by a mix of 2 cell Lipos ranging from 650 mah up to 800 mah. In the next installment I'll let you know how she did or didn't handle.

Part two of the further adventures of Bongo.
If you're reading this you've already found http://www.hornetsmfc.co.uk. Well done! You
might want to click on the video link on the left hand side of the main page and have a look at our latest indoor meet. A very good evening was had bursting balloons although that wasn't quite what was planned. Still the hall had a good 'buzz' all evening with Bongo performing quite well, but there's always room for improvement. Firstly the CD-rom motor lost a magnet after its first flight so repairs had to be made. Trim was also miles out resulting in a steep climb on take off. Roll and climb rates weren't brilliant, and if I'm honest I was a little disappointed. But that's down to my tuning and not the model itself. So I sat down and made some adjustments. First I repaired the motor although I had to remove the offending magnet and place it safely in my flight box. Then I adjusted the trim and took to the air once more. Much better this time! Given Bongo doesn't create much lift (none to be exact) she takes a little getting used to. You can fly her with quite a steep nose up attitude and with careful throttle control she will fly slowly, or you can drop the nose, level her somewhat, and she will pick up speed quite noticeably. Quite a handful in the hall at speed but still controllable.
Several flights later and numerous heavy landings, collisions, and departures resulted in the bits of damage shown in the picture. As a result of her first flight I have made some post indoor meeting mods. The first is the purchase of a new motor from Robotbirds, the second is the extension of the servo arms to provide better throw of elevons, and the third is to score the hot glue hinges as she was a little tight in the movement department. Just need to wait till next month to try her out although with the evenings getting lighter I may well venture out on a half day somewhere quiet and breeze free. So for under £20 (if you supply your own radio gear and motor etc) the Bongo is a real laugh. The two hour indoor meeting whizzed past, five lipos were used, and the corresponding videos show the fun had. No helicopters were damaged, only one mid-air took place, but most importantly several balloons were catapulted into extinction. Article from ;   http://www.hornetsmfc.co.uk/

Dinil, If you want to know what Depron is, pick up a disposable picnic plate. It is made of Biofoam (NOT THERMOCOL). That material is known as Depron abroad. It is much lighter than cardboard if you compare pieces of the same thickness. You can make lovely gliders out of these picnic plates.

Cheers!

Should we use laminated biofoam sheets or unlaminated sheets ? I have made a plane from foam that is laminated on one side. but wanted to know if any one has used unlaminated ones, does lamination add strength?
