Ideas for building a low cost prop balancer.
Now most will argue that if a prop balancer is available at HK for about $11, why bother. While that may be true, but my main interest in this hobby is the DIY route, so here goes.

1. To get to build a magnetic balancer, I would need a low cost setup like this http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=14927
2. Get a couple of magnets
3. A wooden base - mine was a 1.5 inch x 1.5 inch block that was cut to a length of 5cm
4. vertical stands - I used a pair of 10cm x 2 cm x 3 mm MDF strips

The pictures are attached and I guess it is self explanatory how this is setup. I have used it with a 14x8 prop and it works

BTW, while balancing, try not to have the fan or the air con on.

Balancing the prop.......

Initially I thought that the props are well balanced but there used to be lot of vibrations and sound....
Had heard about balancing prop so gave it a try....saw some videos on balancing the props and came out with this simple tech to balance.

I had 2 props & both Propellers I had were TGS Sport 6x4E & 5x5E Precision propellers and both were out of balance. As seen in videos I had to put cello tape on the lighter blade ( tape used is almost covering full blade). Notice the Blue & red tape on the propellers.

the setup is a big Slice bottle ( depends on size of Prop) cut as shown in Pic take empty refill put nib on both ends fix the prop with the help on prop adjust washer which come with prop. A balance prop should stop at any position an imbalanced prop will have one blade going down due to gravity..... now either this ( down) blade can be scratched with blade or sandpaper to shed off some weight or add cell tape to the opposite blade to make it balance.

Though this was a very simple set up I must say there was significant improvement, the motor ran very smooth & no vibrations were there. It also had nice sound of motor which is usually heard on HK videos. ;D

With the setup i am not getting 100% balance but yes major flaw is removed. More than satisfied with an hours efforts.

And yes as mentioned no fan /ac or your breath should affect the prop during balancing!!!!

Satisfactory results in balancing 3 props.

try to do !!! flights and motor run would be much much smoother....
