Title: Drill aluminium square pipes??? Help!
Post by: hyd_quads on February 27, 2012, 10:24:03 AM
Hi. I am making a quadcopter. I have purchased aluminium square pipes from rcelectro.com (great service from rcelectro  :hatsoff: ). I want to mount my dt700 motors on these pipes. And I guess I am sure I have to use a rotating-drill (not impact!). What mm hole do I need to drill?

dt700 : http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6246

Thanks.

Well if you need a drill bit i would suggest simply take the motor to a hardware store nearby and they would be able to provide you with the required mm drill bit and screws.

Well it's easy to drill through aluminium, buy hand-drill. It will cost you 150-200rs and get 3mm HSS drill bit(20rs). 3mm hole is enough.

Hyd..please use micro nut and bolts with undulated washers in between the nut and bolt..because as, the aluminum material is comparatively soft, with a prolonged use can loosen the screw with vibrations..a best and precise way to drill holes on a structure is with an arbor..and instead of drilling a needed size hole, at first give a pilot hole..
