Yesterday, I was trying to shorten a bolt(the wheel axle in my landing gear) with a saw and my entire family had to assist................ guess its lack of practice ;)

That is another application of the fret saw. I have shortened bolts that way. But a cut off wheel in a dremel is the easiest and fastest way.

You do not need to use a fret saw to cut off wheel axles. You wouold require a hacksaw. Use of proper tool is most important in the quality of product you end up with. Guess what would have been the result if the same guy had used a hacksaw instead of fret saw.
As correctly pointed out a cut off wheel spinning at correct speed is the correct way to cut off axles/bolts makes such jobs so easy and with the fairly cheap chinese rotary tools available you need not rely on Dremel alone, but then nothing beats a Dremel   

I disagree, in my experience I found it easier to cut bolts with a fret saw. You can position the saw to get the exact length you need easier with a fret saw. Also it gives a clean cut. If it is a large bolt then it might take forever with a fret saw, in that case I'd go for a hacksaw.

I love those chinese tools too. Now I find cheaper Indian brands too, probably made in china and labeled in India. Their low prices justifies their purchase for our infrequent hobby use.

I mentioned a 'saw' and not particularly a fret saw. Probably u assumed.............., but thats ok. I was just trying to appreciate how much one could accomplish with practice when laymen like me toil with tools we pick up once in a while ............... :)

I never stated that you mentioned hacksaw, probably yuo assumed it. I was only trying to stress my point of use of proper tool where I gave an example of the fret saw artist using a hacksaw instead of fret saw. And then my post of using a fret saw for cutting off bolts was in response to rotorzone
But then it is fine with me ;D

BTW, I think I'll buy shorter bolts next time..........saves much trouble!  :D Cool. ;D
