Title: Hand drill
Post by: SunLikeStar on December 22, 2010, 03:59:07 PM
Does anyone know where I can find a hand drill, like the one in attached picture? I don't need a hand cranked drill.

I got it from infinity-hobby.com ( or perhaps helipross.com ) and love it. Very very useful.

Small bits (possibly 1mm onwards, certainly 1.5mm onwards) are usually available in stores that sell drill bits. You do have to find a grip/holder.  That is how I worked around, until I got this :

It is not as good/convenient as the one from Align, I will get the Align one (or something like that) soon.

The griper thing might workout for me. The hand cranked type drill is available in local hardware store for just 150 Rs. May be i'll get that, strip the gears out and put a handle on the main shaft. IF i dont find a better solution.

this tool is used foe making threads in tubes or nuts
it can hold a bit of size minimum 3mm to 6mm (drill bit)
all these bits are easily available in market for nearly rs10 per pcs....

regards

kartik
P.S : the bit in the above picture is not a drilling bit its a bit to make threads.....and you can use a bit of size more than 6mm by grinding it from back side to fit in the jaw.

These are called tap/drill handles, the pic posted above I think is from Great planes tap handle. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXK377&P=7
What I have seen here in India is a much bigger handle

You can search for pin vise, tower has various and in various budgets as well.

The xacto one can handle bits from 1.35mm to 7.3mm sizes. Something similar should be availble locally in India as well
I use the one from zona and is a usefull little tool which takes care of my all drilling needs upto 1/8"
