 Bang Head

The screw holding the tail on the boom was a little tight due to loctite blue. Tried opening and it slipped it was barely 2 kg of pressure. I was somehow able to remove the screw later on but this screwed up the Align hex driver. There is no much damage on the hex driver but that small little dent is now rounding of other cheap HK screws. Luckily I have 2 more Align 1.5mm for now.

OK here is the reason why they are bad.
1)First of all they are soft. Not very soft, but still if you remove them and put them back on 2 to 3 times they are goners.
2)The hex head of Align is not a perfect fit on the screws. It has a slight play when the driver is in the head. Align head is a perfect 1.503mm.
3)When the screw does not slip, the head of the screw and the driver wont get damaged. But if it does, then both get damaged.

I tried a brand new screw each from HK frame hardware bag and Align frame hardware bag and the Align screws were a perfect fit on the hex driver and they are very strong too.

The damaged hex driver still fits and works well on the Align screw but not any more on HK screws. As the saying goes what you pay is what you get.

So my decision would be is to use Align frame hardware bag. I don't see any other design flaws on the HK450 kit other than the bad screws and a lack of metal gear on the tail drive pulley which I have upgraded to metal ones spending 2.5 $.

@Anwar, Now you know what the problem was not with me but the screws.
BTW will the frame hardware bag has all the screws required for a heli (except the ball link screws)?  Head Scratching

vinay, my experice with align and hk are both are &^%$ screws... they are like chewing guy and get cut or will slip.. i have invested in the RCscrewz.. these are stainless steel ones and are really really good.. i would have passed them to you but installed them on the helis that yougesh bought... but let me know which screws you need and if i have i will try to send them...and btw be carefull on teh boom block.. this in one of the main issue with align.. the boom slips, if you are up to some small engineering stuff... take this block and get through holes from end to end on the boom block and take a long 2 - 2.5mm bolt and fix it on the block... this mechanism is used in the protos and the tail does not move... if not use a dremel and the heads of the screws you have and use a normal flat screw driver..

Thanks Sujju for the tip, The HK 450 plastic version already comes with a small pin in the tail that does not make it slip. But the 450 MT does not have them. I thought of doing the same dremel trick but now I apply a little loctite on the tail boom all around before I insert it into the tail holder. This holds the boom in place even w/o the screw  Wink But my problem was with the loctite on the screw and the screws were thrash.

BTW I am planning to change the entire body screws of my 2 HK450s. Looks like the RCScrews cost as much as the HK450 V2 Kit itself  Wink. I already have Align screws with me and lets see how it goes. I plan to use them next time I open up the Heli.

BTW which hex drivers do you guys use?

i dint know about the pin,, that is quite innovative, infact i was using a small screw tru the boom and the block to hold it in place...  and the loctite you are using should be 242 but can be removed quite easily.. am using these hex screws got this from dubai and are quite good (till date)..

yes these are hex driver but with a ball end... this will help you slide the driver into the screws in angles that dont need to be perpendicular to the screws...

OK, time for tip #1 for properly fixing the Align tail case (for the ones without the pin to lock it).  Works on all Align helis.  Fix one full round (and NO more) or thin transparent cello tape on the end of the tail boom which would go into the tail case.  Then fix the tail case. Remember that with most tapes, two rounds would be too thick, and the tail case cannot slide in (it would push the tape also further on to the boom); so just one layer of it is what is needed.  I have never had a tail case slip out with this; and I use the non-permanent (blue) loctite on the screw(s) that holds the tail case on to the tail boom.

Never had issues with Align screws so far.  There are better quality ones, but never felt the need for them.

Same with the Align hex drivers.  Myself and others at the field (there are multiple people for whom I ordered and got these) are happy with those.

So far, the horrible products from Align have been their lipos and chargers.  Pretty close to being hopeless, putting it mildly ! Everything else I have used from Align so far has been better than "you get what you pay for".  People who have lived in the US (and probably other places too!) can relate to the "Toyota Camry / Honda Accord" car choice frequently made by "desi"s (as opposed to a Hyundai or a BMW) !  In short, pretty good value for money Wink

RCScrews are way out of my budget. Planning to stick to Align Frame Hardware bags (3 times cheaper than RCScrews). I will order a few soon as I have 2 helis.

No Thanks, I wanna start using align bags  Grin What do you do with a strong screw driver when a rounded/stripped/Loctited screw is deep inside the heli and you are not able to remove?  Wink

Fix one full round (and NO more) or thin transparent cello tape on the end of the tail boom which would go into the tail case.  Then fix the tail case.

The tape trick did not work. The tail if pushed with force still rotates. Reverting back to purple Loctite trick. I want the tail holder to be struck on the boom since I am a beginner, and a simple bump to the ground and the tail holder should Hold. But for experienced people who never touch their heli tail to the ground the tape trick will be enough I guess.

Thanks sunk, but do they fit the HK450?

You must not be tightening the case enough, for fear of breaking something.  And most of the time, I help beginner heli flyers with such stuff (the experienced ones take care of themselves Wink) ; and I have not seen them rotate or move, except during hard impact crashes.

No Anwar bhai. I am not tightening the screw much, I am actually using purple Loctite exactly in the place of tape. this will hold solid. Since MT is metal to metal there is no problem.

No Anwar bhai. I am not tightening the screw much

That explains the whole thing. You have to tighten it pretty well, and with the tape inside, it stops any rotation. Use loctite on the screw alone while tighening, and it should hold fine until you have to remove it yourself later on.

I tried at all strength and the boom slips  Sad . Probably if it was a 500 size heli with a 2.5 mm hex screw then possibly you can tighten it enough to hold. But I tightened it as much as the Align 1.5mm screw can take and the boom slipped. So the loctite trick is holding tight as of now.

Hmmm.. strange. No such issues on the two HK450 v2s I have worked on so far.  So also with the HK450GT Pro (which has a pin setup, so did not use the tape inside).  Also, never had this issue with the original Align 450s (have worked on many of them so far).
