Title: Home Made Shock absorber Wheels
Post by: gbisht on May 21, 2012, 12:09:34 AM
Hi All,

I was  looking Shock absorber Wheels for my new Home Made Plane and thought why not build my own,
So sharing that building and thought process with you.

I build it with help of following Items

1. A Holo Shaft (Scrap of my Micro Heli Tail Boom)
2. A Servo unused Screw (big one)
3. A Wheel
4. Pen Spring (From Scrap)
5. A Plastic Piece of Card (Any Plastic, waste credit card etc)
6. A Electrical Color (Burnt Electrical Switch)

To stop its auto rotation I have added a steel rod later and nail a screw in shaft so that screw will run under that steel frame and stop auto-rotation of wheel
Right now work in not done in Production Manner because Don’t have PEN Springs (Thanks for use n through cheap Pen)
and need to buy Glue to stick steel rod frame.

It can be done in better way

Oh, A brilliantly used idea to make simple  shock absorber, and of course Ingeniously.
Just the spring backing needs to cut in small area and have to hide inside something.

You may use some heat shrinkable pipe, shrink-ed only top side, bottom side keep opened for free spring movement.

I seen this idea and is really cheap.

The two side wheel are tied with tension Spring (Red Line) and used as shock absorber.

Thanks

Good - but this can be avoided by using spring
steel wire for the undercarriage strut. The wire itself
will act as a shock absorber.

This is the case in 90% of models and most general
aviation light planes - for the main gear.

Look at the many cessna and other similar
aircraft for inspiration.

As posted earlier, I prefer to make Coro Plane and the landing gear like following.

The advantage is the inner steel/Al wire elasticity works as the shock absorber along with coro flutes.
