RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

How does one remove various types of glue that are used in building models, with minimal damage to the model/parts ?

I am specifically interested in local techniques used for removing the following :

1) Hot glue

2) CA

3) Epoxy

4) Permanent threadlock (red)

Once case that easily comes to mind is when people use hot-glue to fix servos etc on foamies.

To remove CA try the paint remover... it works..
it is not the nailpaint remover, not acetone, not spirit, not methanol... paint remover is available at hardware shops. alternately, you can order the CA remover from rotor... this is only shop I found the CA remover available.

Assumption: Removing glue from non corrosive items (except materials like EPP, which would leave hole on using Nail polish remover itself).

I know the best paint/glue remover is mix a of Acetone (If I still recall correctly)  sold at Screen printing suppliers  for cleaning ink from silk screen stencils. I have used it to remove 'Elfy' bonds, the forerunners of Fevi-Quick.

I have no experience with  slow  glues like Araldite/Silicone glue. Do we use these in modeling?

We glue RC tires to rim with CA tire glue. And to remove the tires and re-use the rims, we dip the wheel in hot boiling water. It softens the CA and then we pop the tire off the rim.
It also works for hot glue.
Or use the baking method. For this you will want to place the tire on a cookie or baking sheet and then place into a pre-heated 350 degree oven for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove the tire from the oven and then pop off the tire.
Or just use CA de-bonder.

There is no way for red locktite, except breaking it or drilling method (drill the screw with a smaller drill bit till the screw breaks and if then retreading the hole.

Never worked with removal of epoxy, thr are epoxy remover you could use.

Found this for Foam safe CA. Any takers ? Wonder why these items are not stored by LHS other than gud ol Mr Sai ?

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=8458

I esquired about Evotite brand at Adhesive distributors (they are BIG. I mean such big agency dealing only in industrial adhesive!!) in SP road. But none has heard about them. They may have some variation of foam safe CA, who knows, just they are not advertised like that.

Anybody knows chemical composition of foam safe CA? It may help find local alternative.
