Title: Material sources - Foam board / coro sheets
Post by: anwar on March 18, 2009, 03:23:11 PM
Dear all -

In order to start building the "quality information content" of this site, I am starting various threads that point to availability of RC material (outside of RC shops).

So this is the thread where you can post availability of foam boards and coro sheets in your locality/city/town (or village  ;D)

Just made a call to these guys, they said a 4ft x 8ft x 4mm is about Rs.380.

I plan to visit and verify sometimes towards the end of next week.

Update on depron/bio-foam in Delhi. Manage to track the dealer in the crowded Pahar Gunj area - had to walk quite a lot in the blistering heat of Delhi.....

Anyway, it turns out that this bloke has stopped stocking (fresh) products, has just about 10-15 sheets of 2 side laminated bio foam that he sells for about 370. The material itself had quite curves and the lamination was coming out in places. It looked horrible.

Further, the sheet is 4mm including thick paper based lamination on 2 sides, so I guess, just the foam would not be more than 2 to 2.5mm in thickness.

Don't think one can build much from this sort of material, but I may be wrong....

Hi,
The easiest way to find a biofoam dealer near you is to call up the main biofoam company at mumbai (number is in their website) and ask them for their local distributor. the distributor should be able to give the retailer's contact number. That was how i found out about Subhashree at Chennai.

Did some more scouting in Pahar Ganj Delhi. I actually took a sample along and kept asking around. Managed to get a dealer with HUGE stock in biofoam. The unlaminated sheets are available in 3 mm, 5 mm, 10mm etc right upto 30 mm

The address is
Gokal Chang Jagan Nath Nahar
5/7 Desh Bandhu Road (Parar Ganj)
Delhi 11 0055
Ph 23584959, 9811075723

Just bought 2 pc of 10 mm sheets of 1mt x 0.5 mt for 250 bucks each. Lets try an figure out what to do with these  ;D ...

Hello friends, I am new to this forum and don't know where to get more details on Foam core.

I make Paper Models as Hobby and need Foamcore for basing. If any could help me get them then I would be very much thankful.

I live in Shahjahanpur (U.P.) and would prefer the distributor/person who could ship the items to me.

Thanks a lot

PS: I exactly don't know whether Foam core and Biofome are same thing so could any please clear it to me.

Hi pankaj

I am sorry the last piece of unlaminated depron was take n by me long time back from the first shop you mentioned.First they were trying to sell me the laminated one..i managed to coax a worker and went to their godown where i bribed the worker with 300 Rs and took 5 depron sheets of varying thickness.  ;D I guess it was my day...got a dirt cheap deal...

i feel depron in delhi is costly as compared to other places..i paid rs 32 for 1 sheet in pune from a stationary shop in appa balwant chowk..

What's a Zepron Sheet ? Anybody knows any sources for zepron sheets ?

Has anyone built any planes from zepron sheets ?

Zepron are like Depron (BioFoam) but are much flexible and due to their bending property they could be used for folded wing design.

Any body game for finding the local variant ? At least the name (as Depron is BioFoam, Coro is Sunpack, etc etc) ??

To Make a bullet proof aeroplane you have to Join NASA research Lab and please contact DRDO and
i think you are searching for BPP material (Bullet Proof Plane) instead of EPP.
Sorry Rao, jokes apart......but your idea is good ut exactly what you mean by BPP......????

I saw an experimental GPS driven UAV aircraft being tested by some company in the Jakkur field, and it was covered with Kevlar sheets.  That is one way to get close to being bullet proof ;)

I also saw it fall from about 50 feet, with no damage at all !

"Bullet proof plane" means, the plane which is "Crash Proof". When the EPP is reinforced with packing tape, it becomes "Bullet Proof"!

For the guys who are into builing SPADs, heres some thing I tried and I think it will work better than coro, specificaly for profile planes. I've found a thing called 'Multi layered polycarbonate sheet'. It is hard as plastic but flexible like coro. it has flutes and if the flutes are cut away, it gives a great aerofoil.
If anyone is interested then I'll find out the name of the company that manufactures it.
Pls see the photographs of the material I'm talking about in this thread
http://www.rcindia.org/gas-glow-nitro-planes/no-coro-here/msg16887/#msg16887

Has anybody been able to source 4mm coro?
By the way my build has a 4.6mm MLPC sheet.

Title: Re: Material sources - Foam board / coro sheets/ EPP Sheets
Post by: b4ggu on April 12, 2010, 07:31:06 PM
Hi Guys,
Ramesh tells me decent EPP is not available in India at all. He imported from Flying Wings in UK recently and says the quality of that product is out of another world compared to the other products that are in the market.

"EPP is not available in India. and I had to order it from flyingwings.com, shipping is huge, and then add customs......................."

I referred him to Sai and Ramesh stresses;
"Just spoke to Sai, he referred to the material used by car garages for insulation when fitting ac, it comes in 20 feet rolls, not good dude.
This stuff does not even come 10% close to the EPP from flyingwings.com. So when he realised what I was saying, he did say there is some company selling EPP and would possibly send me some contacts.

But Deepak, u cannot beat EPP by flying wings, even when cost of shipping is 3 times the order value. So u being in UK, enjoy EPP dude, we are the unfortunate ones....u cannot beat the quality of Depron, the biopack found here is not a patch. I have seen Depron, most guys in India have not seen Depron, so they just praise the crap u get here, hahaha.
Thanks for your effort, appreciate it, but I will still order from flyingwings, 15mm and 25mm thickness. probably order it tonight. Guys here have no idea of quality."

Can anyone shed any more light on this subject... Have you bought actual EPP in your city?
Have any of you flown or seen the actual EPP from Flying Wings....

EPP trainers and fun flying models...... ...  http://www.flyingwings.co.uk/

Anyone here tried to use the insulation/foam that is used to ship servers by companies like Dell, HP, Cisco etc ?  That is one heck of a sturdy material, yet very very light. I used some of it to build "legs" for the quadrotor, and would have loved to build a plane with it.  But the pieces I have are not big enough.

Also, the technician at the local RC store said that he routinely raids construction sites to pickup what he termed as "blue core" foam that is used in insulation of central airconditioning units.  The ones I saw being use are fluffy ones (not stiff at all), so I guess there is something else which, according to him, are "perfect for building light electrics".  Unfortunately he did not have any samples to show me at that time.  Anyone tried this ?

To clarify, the thickness of the foam I am talking about is very high, 2 to 4 cm.

That 'Fluffy' stuff used for A/C insulation here is known as Hetlon. some ppl mistake it to be biopack.. its very commonly seen at foam shops everywhere in India (i even saw it in Leh!) comes in 2 colours white n black and different thickness from 3mm to 10mm. But i dont think it can be used for RC as even 10mm folds under its own weight! we use it as carry-mat.

I also have a sample of Pink coloured foam (dont know what it is). its very light but very tough, but also brittle. showed it around at Foam Market near Sandhurstroad, Mumbai but that and Depron (they call imported foam) was not available with a single person! :-(

Here's another lead for all the Spadders forr our supply of coro. Generally the sunpack that is awailable here is 3 mm but i think I found a good and dirt cheap source for 4 mm coro. Cheap as in free and good as in 1 sheet will make about 2 .46 size planes.
Has anyone noticed, but all the cut outs at movie halls are made from 4 mm black coro sheet and the size is nearly 10 feet by 4 feet.
These guys throw away the cut outs once the movies change. All one has to do is to get in touch with the Duty manager and request him for the sheets when they throw them away. He would guide u to the distributor and the distributor would be more than glad to get the "junk" off his hands.
Happy hunting
Doc

Same as all other places.  You need to locate advertising agencies that do outdoor signs.  They will lead you to the actual source of coro sheets.

I wonder if the difference between the following is quite clear to all. See if these images will help.

FOAM BOARD ;Thermocol or polystyrene sheet sandwiched in paper used for presentations.

EPP; Verysimilar to polystyrene / thermocol but much more stronger and flexible/ forgiving thus retaining its shape.

DEPRON ; a much finer version of Thermocol/ polystyrene. Suitable for very light indoor models.

Hi Ved,
Get in touch with any printing or advertising agency. Ask them where you can buy Sunpac. Coro is known as Sunpac in India. It may difficult to find an online source as they come in 6'x4' sheets and shipping would be an issue for sure ;D.

Mohan

In Goa coro is not very popular with the advertising agencies.. All the banners here are flex printed and then stretched onto metal frames or glued onto PVC foam board..

Title: Re: Material sources - Foam board / coro sheets
Post by: rohitgupta322 on February 06, 2011, 07:04:32 PM
Yes, coro is one material which is widely available in India, try some sign-age and printing shops. Or u may also speak to some local business owners as they use it for advertisement, the coaching classes use it a lot. In kolkata, all i see is "crack iitjee, aieee", etc printed on these materials hanging everywhere.

The closest source then would be Mumbai or Pune if it is not available in Goa :banghead:.

Title: Re: Material sources - Foam board / coro sheets

The reason for their denial is because you asked for 2-4 sheets which will get damaged in transportation. :) They said a consignment of 40-50 sheets won't get damaged. Since your requirement is limited, in that case I guess some local hunting is required. Search for shops which sell packing materials, vinyl, advertisment boards, foam, etc. Try searching on www.justdial.com.

And I have seen shops which sell depron / bio-foam sheets to also have coro sheets. Reason: They all are used as packing / advertisement materials.

Best of luck, and keep us posted.

Coro Sheets you get from Chuna Mandi area in Paharganj. Nearest landmark is New Delhi Railway station, its walking distance from there. I dont have phone numbers of seller there but you will find many shops there selling coro sheets. Ask for sunpack instead of coro sheets.

Depron you can get from below person:

Gokal Chang Jagan Nath Nahar
5/7 Desh Bandhu Road (Parar Ganj)
Delhi 11 0055
Ph 23584959, 9811075723,

You can call on his cell phone for exact directions as I have never been there in his shop, I called recently and he has only 5mm depron sheets with him.
Rs. 375 for 36inch X 39inch sheet in 5mm.

If any one of you is looking for coroplast (sunpack) sheets in Gurgaon:

Amit Kalra
+91-9810427078
Satyam Sales
Opp. Dhobi ghat,
Old Railway Road,
Near Vishal Painter, Gurgaon - 122001
Email: amit.satyam16@gmail.com

I got bright white 3mm coro 4' x 6' sheet for Rs. 120 this evening, slightly expensive than Paharganj, but that's much less assuming you drive down (you dont want to end up with bent coro travelling in metro).

To add to the Spadiliciousness, the guy also stocks vinyl sticker sheets (most colors, matte and gloss finish!), Industrial Strength CA adhesive (I bought one for Rs. 35 - Qty almost 10 sachets of FeviKwik), solvents and double sided tapes extensively for coro.

Directions: Approaching from Delhi on NH-8, take right from Rajiv Chowk and head about 2 kms. Cross the shiv murti chowk and slow down your vehicle. Just cross ESSKAY towers, and this guy's shop is another 200 m on the left hand side in the basement.

Hope the information helps...

Hi ramarao,

Thanks for the suggestion,
Brought the biopack sheets from the shop you suggested today, 1 sheet 3mm for 250/- bucks

searched other foam dealers near the shop and also MG road but couldn't get it.

apparently siddarth agencies got the biopack stock for some bulk requirement but the order got cancelled, that's why he alone has got supply of biopack. 8-)

you are right but one sheet of 10mm costs around rs. 500 which is to much and the dimensions is also quiet small 1 metre * 50cm. but will try my best to get it. I want coro because I want to build any of those taitil sir's builds which are fantastic and for one more reason I can't tell.

I have to even cut that thing using an hot wire cutter to bring it to more thin sheets of 5mm. another option is getting blue foam one sheet of 25mm from supreme petro chemicals I've contacted them and they can supply with one sheet seperately. But I've to cut it vertically which is a pain. I have a good design in my mind this one http://hotwirefoamcutterinfo.com/_HorizontalTableDesign.html (http://hotwirefoamcutterinfo.com/_HorizontalTableDesign.html)
but before that I want to finish my current build of the hot wire cutter. then i will go for that one. we can use it to cut out the wings also

Very easy. Go to nearest press printing house. ask them for supply. When u ask for the full size, they will request you to collect from the CORO shop and you will be informed. SOme advertisement board Coro sheet may be used for free, collecting from posts of road used for displaying advertising. Many of us used those. You can have a try.

Coro should be available. Go on online sites like JustDial.com and search for signboard printers. These people print signboards on either Flex material, or Coroplast (and some other materials)
Coroplast in many places is also called Sunpack sheet.

Post by: shobhit17 on May 05, 2014, 06:56:09 PM
Dear friends,
I have no mood to use coro or biofoam for my models though they look inviting... Just do not like the sharp edges which they bring along with them.  Recently I made a model out of a  commercially available thermocol which is slightly denser than the regular commercial thermocol.  I cut the sheets of 1/2 in thickness for my fuselage and then cut in a sheet of 1 in thichkess for my wing (50 in in span).  Used one soft balsa spar of 6mm x 4mm on top and bottom of the wing surfaces.... Sanded the thermocol to required shape and put in a 10mm x 6mm leading edge + a 20mm x 5mm Training edge to it.  Once completed I covered it with regular paper pasted on it with thinned fevicol (50:50 ratio of fevicol and water).  Covered the parer when wet with a thin layer of the same thinned glue.  On drying I painted it with Fevicryl colours.

Well the end result was a wonderful tough thermocol wing which was quite light and stiff.... coloured well and it does fly well...

OK the cost of the entire thing...
1.   Got the 2in thick thermocol sheet from false ceiling fabricators for Rs 100.  Used it for making 1/2 in sheet for fuselage and the wing.
2.   Paper cost me Rs 5.
3.   Paint and Brush in all cost me Rs 200.
4.   Yes the tailplane and fin were made of 4 mm balsa sheet which cost me Rs 150 (half of it is still left).
5.   Now its the cost of servos Qty 04 for Rs 200 each
6.   Motor and Lipo (NTM 28 series motor and a Flightmax 2200 mAh lippo)

total cost of just the model was below Rs 400.... (cost of fevicol included)

well friends happy building your model.....

Well here goes..... I am uploading the pic of two of my models.... The yellow one in the centre has a fuselage of the thermocol I am talking of.  The yellow wing had a combilation of HD thermocol and the one I am talking of.  The white and red wing on the left is of the thermocol which is non HD.

I want to know as high density thremocol and Coro sheet has strength in their structure
I have this sample it bend very easily is this material is used for building park flyer jets or
Different material. Where should I search for biofoam.

Dear wingman bunty, this is not biofoam, if im not wrong it should be styrofoam. its used for packing batteries for safety during crash. if you have a big block of it, you can carve out a 3d profile plane and use CF rods for reinforcement.
cant say about the flight charecteristics as it would create too mch drag but light and strong and indestructable material.
take care while cutting this foam. if ingested it can cause serious breathing problems.

Well what I know of....  styrofoam is what is sold as Thermocol in India.  I find Thermocol to be one of the cheapest material to build models.  Look at my latest post thread... I am making a model out of thermocol picked up from Fridge dealers, TV dealers and Computer dealers.  Yes it all has different densities but then one has to mix and match.  This not because I lack supply of HD Thermocol or Balsa, I have sufficient to make about 25 models out of my stock and should last me a few years.  This was just to let you guys here on the blog to understand that the ones using fancy stuff are only scaring away hobby aeromodellers or making them spend far too much of their money. Wingmanbunty... look at my post http://www.rcindia.org/tools-materials-and-building-techniques/building-my-second-model-from-commercially-available-thermocol/msg186495/#msg186495 (http://www.rcindia.org/tools-materials-and-building-techniques/building-my-second-model-from-commercially-available-thermocol/msg186495/#msg186495) and will should be of some assistance to you.... and many others.

Here is the picture of type of thermocol I used for making the model shown in the thread.

Source of hd thermocle in Chennai is the various shops in devaraja mudalai street sowcarpet. You can also get a special type of coro which is lighter than the others and also stiffer in shah enterprise or bros(not sure whether bros. or enterprises) in devaraja mudalai street just ask for polycarbonate sheets. I saw them when I went for buying acrylic sheets there.

Its out of stock. The only one thats in stock aint being shipped @ kinetichobbies. Try to mail them or contact them and see if they can arrange shipping on your behalf.

Depron may be available in Nagpur, you just need to find it most probably. Or you can also try to find coro.

Depron from Edalhobby, is paper laminated, and is heavier than the plastic laminated Depron I have.
This thin plastic film laminated Depron is available in Trivandrum.

Kartik just take a stroll to a sign writer or google screen printers in your area. All sign writers sell these as they are used on the electric pole signs and hoardings

When you go to a sign/ ad-board printer he may point you to a wholesale shop as they don't usually sell coro. Here they are called 'sunpack' sheets, try that name too. I usually get 8' by 4', 3mm and 4mm sheets for Rs. 250 and Rs. 350 per sheet respectively.

Near Sarjana Chowk there is Rani sati market there is a only dealer of corrugated sheet. And do use the term "sunpack", if you will  say coroplast or corrugated sheet they will see you weirdly.

Check out your local yellow pages! Search for a plastic sheet dealer. Or go onto Corpack 's website and see if they've got a distributor near you.

of course, i went to a printing shop in my native  Namakkal of Tamil Nadu and i told "coroplast" and they never ever heard of such word and after much explainations the printer shown me the sheet and told its name "sun flex sheet" 😅😂😴

Hello everyone.
This emerging store seems to have promising building material products: https://www.vortex-rc.com/

Depron (XPS foam sheets) : https://www.vortex-rc.com/product-category/building-materials/depron-xps-foam/
Costs about 100 a sheet (5 sheets minimum)
Paper laminated foam sheets: https://www.vortex-rc.com/product-category/building-materials/paper-laminated-foamboards/
Costs about 250 a sheet (5 sheets minimum)

It's a shame we have to pay almost thrice as in the States for a single A1 sized 5mm thick foam board here in our Country but I guess it is what it is.
