Title: Repairing dings and scratches on a foamy wing Post by: VC on August 14, 2011, 11:21:05 PM Recently, as some of you may know, I purchased a Soaring Eagle Glider. The wing was destroyed in transit and Mr. Sai immediately offered to replace it f.o.c. with a Phoenix wing. Not only that, he advised me to try and repair the original wing so that I would have 2 different wings at my disposal for the same fuselage. This would result in 2 different aircraft with different flying characteristics.
Not only was the wing snapped in half, it was badly lacerated and scratched in transit (photos 1 & 2). Deciding to experiment rather than throw away the wing, I boiled (boiled, really boiled) a kettle of water and dipped a handkerchief in it and applied it to the dings and scratches. Repeated the procedure 2 or 3 times with limited success. (photos 3 & 4). Then I got impatient and boiled a third kettle of water and poured the scalding hot water directly over the affected areas. After 2 or 3 repeats, the wing is as good as new - see for yourself ( photos 5 - 8 ). Now to join the broken halves and reinforce the entire wing structure and try to make it airworthy. I hope Mr. Sai does not read this and withdraw his kind offer. ;D Title: Re: Repairing dings and scratches on a foamy wing Post by: vineet on August 14, 2011, 11:27:48 PM ya we usually did many times with foam worked well, even we can remove bends by dipping it into warm water.
