This started from a query by rcneil21 about sourcing spring steel wire.
Puncture wallahs have discarded bicycle tyres from which you can salvage the beading wires.
Adequate for models upto about 1 kg. double or triangulate as required.
I also use cycle spokes.
But you have to wind a spring in it for nose gear.
Pl see pics.

Can be moved from. One model to another.
Former built up of 2 ply plates with balsa sandwiched equal to thickness of wire.
Plug in U/C, hold in place with scrap balsa.
Picture clarifies.
You can use spoke+wire from tire in combination.

Thanks a lot sir for creating this thread. Salute

How did you form the spring? I am going for a taildragger setup so wanted to bend the rod to create circle at the end so the tail gear doesnt snag or dig into the ground directly. Tail gear wont have wheel.

This is the type of landing i will be making:

A few months back Ashok baijal had posted a wire bender from Singapore or HOBBYKING.
But desi jugaadus dont need that.
Get a wood strip about 1"x2"x12" exact size does not matter.
Near one end drill a hole of same dia as UC wire.
1 or 2 or 3 inches away, drill a hole to accomodate any 1/4"-1/2" metal rod or tube you have.
Take UC wire and bend a 1/2" L at one end.
Insert small arm of L in small hole in wood.
Insert metal tube/rod in larger hole.
Bring wire into contact with rod.
Hold free end with strong pliers.
PULL and bend into circles.
If you dont pull, the circles will be egg shaped and unequal!

Made in India!
