Hello to all,
I want to buy an surgical blade or hobby knife from where can i get it in chennai. I want it because I faced many problems cutting depron using a utility knife So I want to buy something else where can I get it. I don't want to spend very high amounts nor want to buy from online.

I forget to mention I searched in each and every medical shop in eldam's road but they are saying either the don't know or they don't stock.
I am ready to pay anyone who can get one hobby knife with spare blades and an hobby cutting mat from hobbyking in their next order to Chennai.

The medical shops usually don't stock them. It is the surgical shops (the shops that sell the surgical equipment for medical profession). You can simply ask for a Surgical Knife handle and blades that go with it. Most commonly used ones is called 'Bard-Parker knife' and various interchangeable blades also will be available. These things usually don't have a round (cylindrical) handle like the hobby knife but a flat ones. Have a look at them and choose what suits the best for your work. ;D

nitesh do you know i was in chennai for 4 hours ( connecting flights) and i got a cutting mat.... it's available in a big mall (forgot what it's called). the mall has a hamley's in it, so that might help. i got a A3 size for 700 INR i got it in a shop called starmarks in that mall.

 check with some stationers, as Camlin sells a X acto clone. i purchased that and got spare blades from HK. got the knife for around 300 INR

Could you post a pic of the X-Acto clone and the mat
when did you come to chennai.
I even went to all stationers in eldams road they don't stock anything like that

yea express avenue... over there go to starmarks.. in the stationary section they have cutting mats. i get the same matss in goa also. they
cost 300/- for a A4 size,
800/- for a A3 size,
and 1500/- for a A1 (chart paper) size

you can get the surgical knife in parrys.There is a street full of surgical shop.i forgot the street name.you can get all sizes there.

Best knives are made from hacksaw blades - the metal
is tempered steel and it holds an edge for a long time.

Get some hacksaw blades and make your own.

if you use a surgical knife for cutting foam it will
dull very fast as the blades are not made to hold
their sharpness - they are made to be disposed
after one or two cuts.

Oder from ebay... I am sure its available there. If you cant find it anywhere else in the market.

i think blade is Rs10 for 2. have got it there about 4 blades and the handle as well.

yes nitesh the same knife.. it fits any xacto blade also. i also have a morn-sun cutting mat a3

This knife is available in anadha stationary stores LB road adyar. (infact he has lots of verities... ).

The china make is available in ritche street (in a box with lots of different blades) but the quality is in question.

Fibre tape nothing but the tape used on seasoned cricket bat.its available in all sports shop price just 30-35INR

For cutting foam i use my swiss knife has both short and long blade which hold sharpness for long time.

I know it is available with sports shop for 20rs. but it's length is not much

You replied in ebay you didn't get cf and now you say you found but its costly.

actually I searched on ebay and only got two products that to overpriced and not the type I wanted. that's why I said I didn't found.

If you know your geology, you can look for obsidian, a stone.

a well-crafted obsidian blades have a cutting edge many times sharper than high-quality steel surgical scalpels.

for surgical blade find the nearest wholesaler who is dealing with surgical material such as venflon etc he will have it cost u 10-15rs for knife and 65-75rs for stainless steel handle

Sorry, I didn't mean to look for professionally made tools. If you have obsidian in your area, you pick up the rock, chip it against a stone,  and all those slivers are razor sharp.  The best part is it's free if you can find the rock in your area.

It's how native Americans made sharp blades thousands of years ago just in case you're a DIY person.

CF rod and Fibre tape is available at rc4all Adyar, its just that he doesnt wants to go out of his home for a search.
Surgical Knives are available everywhere for just 6rs per blade at every medical shop and the handle for just 60rs,
But i doubt anyone would be selling it to minors.

I am not allowed to go to distance places alone.  I can only go to The area near to my house. My parents are very busy and they hardly get time for going to the marketplaces searching for stuff with me. so I have towait when they find time and i can go with them. And those cutters are not available in eldam's road

Go to any Pharmacy of good Hospital and ask for no.11 surgical blade. it will cost you Rs. 12 max.
