Post by: chokxxi90210 on October 11, 2010, 08:39:21 PM
Guys,

I am about to kick-off my build, want to know which is the best Loctite that I can order from Hobby King...

I have received a small bottle with a purpleish-blue glue like thing in the kit, is it a loctite ?? If yes, is it good enough ??

Please advice...

That should be the "medium" strength loctite, and that should be enough.

Seems like Loctite 242 is the one commonly used in India, and should be available locally too.  When it comes to loctite glues, the convention is that blue (or purplish blue) is medium strength, and "red" is permanent.  Stay away from the red/permanent one, unless you know you are never really going to take that part apart.

Apply the bare minimum quantity to only the last 2 or 3 threads on a metal screw that goes into a metal socket hole.  Do NOT use loctite on any screw that goes into plastic (you can put CA if you want, but not usually needed the first time around).

Note : The color mentioned is the color of the actual liquid, not the bottle. I have seen red bottles of loctite with blue glue inside !

Sure anwarbhai, so what do I do for the tail assembly ? its plastic assembly that goes on the tail boom with some metal parts, the screws that fasten the assembly to the boom, do i need to use any glue or not ?

I am not sure about the HK500 tail, whether the screw goes into metal inserts or plastic inserts.  If the screw is going into metal use loctite (otherwise don't use it).

Buy Loctite 243 from local HW store, no need to buy from HK.
50ml = 416/-

Blue Medium is the best to use as Anwar States. Using it on or with anything coming in contact with plastic may lead to the plastic melting. However I've found it doesn't affect certain plastics, but not being too knowledgeable when it comes to the many types of plastic available I tend to ktook thiseep Loctite away from them all.

Plastics used by Chinese companies is usually the cheap variety and it's this type which suffers the most when Loctite comes into contact with it. Remember Loctite moves by capillary action and even though you don't apply it directly to the plastic it can find it's way there given time.

I  found this info on the Loctite site. You may find it interesting:
