As a matter of fact Quadcopters are a lot more cheaper than Helis. Since by the time you master it be to able to fly FPV or even with a basic camera, you might end up spending huge sum of money.
Cost associated to Helis are like iceberg. You need to be ready with the 'Time' and 'Money' for your heli all the time.

Start with a small/average size quad. It goes perfectly with cameras.

RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

Yep, go with a quad. They are less expensive, less dangerous, less maintenance and less effort to become productive. They are more stable for this kind of work. Most professional filming guys (the ones who use Canon 5Ds) have moved to this platform. Only when much larger cameras are involved to people tend to use helis these days.

In fact, I think more people are getting to RC as a whole these days though quads than any other type of crafts.
