I made one out of 3mm corro, but  find it very responsive to the inputs & was little fast for the kids.

Thus need a very slow type plane so that the kids can enjoy.

Do you need just one model or many kits? Although not officially released, we have our own stick model called OMI that is extremely docile and forgiving. You can have a look at the flight video here:

You may try making a three channel glider... that's an ideal thing to teach or learn RC flying. I did it that way.  Gliders give you a lot of leeway in flying... moreso when it is high enough in the air you can cut the motor and make it glide.  Thus giving you effectively about 30 minutes per flight.  I guess if you are ok with it ask Sharma Models of Jodhpur to send you the Apple Box which is a 6ft balsa model  You can have it as a kit or a ready to fly version with electricals fitted if you like.

That OMI in vishal's video looks great for a first time flyer

You could try reducing the prop size a inch to make it little slower and try adjusting the control horns to make it less responsive to control inputs if your radio doesnt have expos/rates.
