Post by: rajathv8 on May 01, 2011, 08:18:20 PM

Anyone with a used slash 2wd in bangalore also let me know.

You can contact Jayanth from ThrottleRC throttlerc.in  and ask him if he knows anyone.. He may know someone looking to sell off their Slash.. :)
Do you have a budget?

I will do that. My budget is 10k with batteries and charger. I know the slash may not fit in this but worth a try.

So 10k RTR? Including Tx/Rx?
Then Phoenix seems to be the only option... If its only bashing you plan to do, you can look up the 1/16 Slash 4x4.. 15k including 1 NiMH battery.. Quuite a stretch.. :)

Another option is to save up now, and buy a good car later :)

Yup RTR. I hont have and car related stuff as of now. Does the phoenix come with any tools?

It comes with basic tools like Allen keys (Are the called Allen keys?).. The Hex drivers.. I'm not too sure, so don't take my word for it..
It also comes with the tool for making camber/toe-in adjustments..

They are called 'L' wrenches or allen wrenches or allen keys.I know of no car that comes with hex drivers. What about a 4-way wrench?

And the tool to make camber and toe adjustments is called a 'turnbuckle wrench'.

Learnt this from the manual :D

Huh I really should go through the manual :D

Haha yeah you need to read the manual abd put your bx together :D
The guy at ModelArt is offering 3600mah nimh + charger for 3k. Is this good for the price?

A lipo+charger can be had for 100$.If you've got some relatives coming to India from the states,it would be better.I'm itching to get mine.

but it would be better to ask an existing owner about the size of the battery tray and get a lipo accordingly.

Or you can get a LiPo that's suited for the Associated RC10T3.. They are the exact same model.. The battery that fits in a T3 will fit in an ST2..

Hey i was asking if 3600mah nimh + charger is worth. Will i be able to get a similar nimh battery + charger for cheaper elsewhere?

Title: Re: TT Phoenix ST2 Bangalore
Post by: iamahuman on May 02, 2011, 09:15:49 AM
I would say its not worth it when you have a good lipo within striking distance from HK.I think you already have a charger.Am I right?

Title: Re: TT Phoenix ST2 Bangalore
Post by: rajathv8 on May 02, 2011, 09:20:32 AM
Yup i have a lipo charger. Iv done some reading and everyone say "i bought a lipo, im never going back to nimh" :D

So il get the lipo from HK i guess. 20C will be sufficient right?

Hardcase packs:
ZIPPY Flightmax 4000mAh 2S1P 20C hardcase pack @ $17 and 265 gms. Dimensions: 137x46x25mm
ZIPPY Flightmax 5000mAh 2S1P 20C hardcase pack @ $21 and 310gms. Dimensions: 137x46x25mm

Normal packs:
ZIPPY Flightmax 5000mAh 2S1P 20C  @  $17 and 250gms.  144x51x17mm
Turnigy 5000mAh 2S 20C Lipo Pack   @ #16 and 368gms.  148 x 49 x 16mm (118 gms more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Hey on hk there are two options - lipo and car hardcase lipo. Is there and difference between a hardcase lipo in the normal section and a hardcase in the car lipo section?

Should do.Discharge rate?Still, just make sure it fits.IMO,a 4000 mah pack should fit.

Not a chance! In the manual, the brushed version's ESC claims to be 200A continous.. Even I was shocked to read this.. :o

The hardcase simply protects the battery.. Otherwise, in a big crash, the LiPo might get punctured.. Try your best to get a Hardcase..

I think Ajo sir has been using softcase packs for quite some time.. Any comments, sir?

Post by: rajathv8 on May 02, 2011, 10:11:13 AM
Woah so il need 5000mah 40c minimum?

Rather than the ESC it depends on the motor right? The esc can handle 200A but it doesn mean the motor will pull so much current.

Title: Re: TT Phoenix ST2 Bangalore
Post by: Divyam on May 02, 2011, 10:26:49 AM
Yeah.. Even the Slash 4x4 ESC is rated for 200A.. But, people get away with 5000MaH 20c batteries because the motor doesn't pull so many Amps..

Title: Re: TT Phoenix ST2 Bangalore
Post by: rajathv8 on May 02, 2011, 10:35:28 AM
So il get the 20c itself? To be safer i think il get the 30C pack.

Title: Re: TT Phoenix ST2 Bangalore
Post by: iamahuman on May 02, 2011, 10:40:27 AM
Rajat, the ST has a smaller compartment.5000 mah 2s 40C is the IDEAL setup for all 1/10 cars.30C is safe and 20C is manageable. Now,coming to the ST,I'm not sure the battery compartment is big enough to hold a 5000 mah pack.Just check the dimensions before you buy a lipo.

Hardcase packs:
Turnigy 5000mAh 2S 30C hardcase pack $23 400gms dimension 139 x 46 x 26mm
Turnigy 4000mAh 2S 30C hardcase pack $18.5 350gms dimension 134 x 44 x 22mm
ZIPPY Flightmax 4000mAh 2S1P 30C hardcase pack $21 dimension 137x51x24mm

normal packs:
 Turnigy 4000mAh 2S 30C Lipo Pack $16.25 324gms dimension 143 x 49 x 14mm

I have listed rates of 20 c , 30 c so next 40 c :D Not able to get the dimensions. Hope Divyan finds it on the box or manual , or measures it himself :D

I would vote for a hardcase anyday. Now,a TT Phoenix ST owner should verify the size.Divyam, could you give us the size of the battery compartment on your BX?It should be similar.

PS:we're on the same frequency :D

I'll try and give it by evening... REALLY busy right now :)

Title: Re: TT Phoenix ST2 Bangalore

tray dimensions on my phoenix ST 2

can take a max of
length - 170mm without the foam piece
width - 45mm. 2mm more if u remove the foam lining on the sides.
height - 25mm stock. one side is adjustable. so shld be able to fit slightly taller batts. maybe upto 28 or 30mm with a tight fit.

and a hard case wld be better. but since this is protected from 3 sides. even a softcase might work

and 200A??? damn. my e-maxx BL with a mamba is rated at 120A.

Then the 5000 should fit.

Thanks Ajit.

that 5000mah zippy hardcase pack shld be good enough.

as for the amp rating its stock batts are 3600 nimh and i dont think they can give out 200A cont

and forgot to add.
stock nimh battery length is 130mm

No way the NiMHs can give 200A.I have seen such ridiculous ratings only on brushed ESCs.Don't know what the whole thing is about.

I've seen a graph(datalogged)where a stampede 4x4 drew 150A on a CC SW-SCT 3800 :o Don't remember the gearing but it must have been ridiculous.Anyways,I doubt the phoenix would draw anything over 100A

Thanks a lot for the info Ajit. 5000mah 2s 20c should be ok i guess.  Does anyone have specs for the super sport 17T motor? Couldnt get it online.

Title: Re: TT Phoenix ST2 Bangalore
Post by: iamahuman on May 02, 2011, 03:10:35 PM
17T means its for stock class.(Actually it should be 17.5 T)Not spectacularly powerful by any means. It should have around the power of a 34 turn brushless motor(of similar size.)

Title: Re: TT Phoenix ST2 Bangalore

I wanted to know the power consumption.

Title: Re: TT Phoenix ST2 Bangalore
Post by: iamahuman on May 02, 2011, 03:28:38 PM
Not a lot :D

(sorry if I sound like I despise brushed motors but I do after coming starting rc off with a brushless, brushed motors seem like no fun)

Title: Re: TT Phoenix ST2 Bangalore
Post by: rajathv8 on May 02, 2011, 03:36:44 PM
Turnigy 4000mAh 2S 30C hardcase pack $18.5 350gms dimension 134 x 44 x 22mm seems to be the only one which fits :D

Yup they definately do not have as much power as a brushless system. I was looking for the Amps it pulls @ 7.4V.

Title: Re: TT Phoenix ST2 Bangalore
Post by: iamahuman on May 02, 2011, 03:39:36 PM
I'm sure the lipo can provide how much ever it needs.Rajath, even a 5000 mah pack will fit.

Title: Re: TT Phoenix ST2 Bangalore
Post by: rajathv8 on May 02, 2011, 03:43:24 PM
So either:

Turnigy 5000mAh 2S 30C hardcase pack $23 400gms dimension 139 x 46 x 26mm
or
Turnigy 4000mAh 2S 30C hardcase pack $18.5 350gms dimension 134 x 44 x 22mm

The 5000mah will be a squeeze @ 26mm. Dont want to go for a 20C.

Title: Re: TT Phoenix ST2 Bangalore
Post by: iamahuman on May 02, 2011, 03:45:42 PM
sure.the 30C should be enough.

Ya.. Stick with the 30c to be safe :)

New (phoenis st2 with battery) or (used slash 2wd package)? Which is better. Kinda leaning towards the slash now. Price wise both come upto the same.
