Hey guys, I have a few TURNIGY Aerodrive motors with me, all with bend shafts. does anybody know where i can buy shafts for this motors? Turnigy aerodrive 1000kv D2830/11
I would appreciate them a bit shorter than the standard ones.

Have a German Yuki Pilatus B4 powered glider from RC Bazaar.
Shaft bent. I straightened it, but to scared of vibration to fly it as is is extremely powerful and flies at 100kmph+.
Need replacement shaft. RC Bazaar don't have.

go to your local hardware store and look for cheap screwdrivers

they have hardened steel shafts much better quality than
the original shafts fitted to the motors.

just find one of the right dia and cut it to size.

Most Hardware stores carry "Die Rods" in mm & inch sizes. These are ground HCHC (High Carbon High Chrome) rods. Cut to size. To cut a groove, mount shaft in the jaws of a drill chuck, and while rotating press a triangular needle file on the surface.

Afterwards, heat to dull red on the gas stove and quench in water or oil (better)

You will get a shaft with a ground finish, with the circlip groove, and a hardness of about 50-55 Rockwell C

Takes more effort to describe - easier to do :D

@Saikat, well well well, now that sounds like a plan, although the hustle for looking for a 3.17mm screwdriver sounds quite tedious, albeit i wonder if a 3mm would fit just as well?

@Sanjay, once i manage to trick somebody into taking me to the hardware store (I need a translator, My Hindi and Bengali are laughable), although i am quite skeptical about whether i would get the same size, if so then what you just explained seems pretty straightforward..

i think i have some spare 3 mm shafts lying , let me know if you needed

3.17 mm is 1/8"  very common size if you specify.

actually sanjays solution is a technically correct one . i am kicking myself
for not thinking die rods - we get them by the hundreds here.

if you cannot get die rods try the following :

you can get a welding rod and scrape off the masala - the inner
rod is exactly 1/8 .. not hardened steel though more than adequate for your purpose.


another common source for these size rods is discarded cd/dvd drives and discarded
printers.

Saw the PM, Extremely sorry if anybody felt offence by me calling them by their forum names without mentioning sir, as a new member i pretty much do not know most of you personally so it is quite hard to guess ages, and even then, i did not know it was necessary as a sign of respect.(But i am from a different planet altogether so please forgive me)
This culture shock will get me into a lot of trouble some day. :-(

@ Saikat sir, of to the electronics bazaar i go, But are welding rods not too soft for such a purpose? correct me if i am wrong here.
and will a 3 mm shaft fit into my motors, i doubt .17 would make much of a difference to that or will it?

3 mm will rattle in your bearings. .... unless of course you can change the bearings too.

another source is motorcycle and rickshaw spokes.

no a welding rod will not be too soft - since your shaft will be max 5cm?
you can try for a stainless steel welding rod - will be harder than ms
