Post by: gauravag on June 30, 2009, 11:28:14 AM
Hi guys,
I was looking to buy a Zenoah G38 gas engine. Anyone knows where to get it from ? Any dealers in India stocking this ?

Hi Gaurav,

Paylessflymore stocks Zenoahs!! But the G38 is presently out of stock... Heres the link though..

http://www.paylessflymore.com/proddetail.asp?prod=G2%2FEG%2F0003

One more question.. Are you by any chance planning to put this in the 50cc YAK??  Any updates on the DLE 55??

Chan,
Thanks for replying. PaylessFlymore has this out of stock for over 6 months, and as per them they have no idea when it would arrive.
No, this is not for the 50 CC gas, rather for a Dynaflite Super Decathlon, that i may be building out of a kit.

The 50 CC would get the DL55 , which i plan to get from Singapore next month. SO far the only place from where i seem to get this is Rotor.com.sg which has the DLE55 for around 500 SGD

Let me know if you know any better place in SG to get a gas engine ( not Singahobby as they have only DA which are too expensive )

Hey Gaurav,

I was pretty concerned when you mentioned Zenoah and immediately I thought that you were figuring out on putting that on your YAK  8-)!! Didnt think much at that time.. Zenoahs are the best for scale planes and never for 3D!!

What I would suggest is that you talk to Aravind of rotor, chennai since he can arrange anything from sing rotor to be brought here for almost the same price.. thats what I found out when I bought the servos.. Its the same price as that rotor, sing..

NTC Hobbies stock gas engines but again they have only DA... DO NOT EVEN VISIT SINGA HOBBY!! Crappy service.. And you cannot negotiate with them..

Try NTC hobbies right next to Singa Hobby on the basement.. They give you a flat 20% discount when you buy from them and a further 5% when you ask for it!! I got flat 25% discount on their internet listed prices... Check out their website (http://www.ntchobbies.com) and decide on what you want first.. then just tell them and ask for a 25% discount!! If you buy in bulk, they even go upto 30%... They offered me a Seb Art Angel for 410 SGD dropping all the way from 500 something!!

Thanks Chan.
I wonder why the Zenoah 38 CC engine is 71  oz when the SPE and RCGF 40 -45 cc are around 55 oz .
Have you used or seen these engines before ? any idea on their quality/reliability ? or why they are so heavy  ?

I will certainly visit NTC hobbies. At the time you visited, did they stock any gas engines ? On their website, everything says " On order" so i am not sure what they have in stock.
I will post a feedback on these stores when i visit next month.

Hi Gaurav,

I have not seen or used these engines but I have done a good amount of research on them when I was choosing a power plant for my 50cc YAK.  Zenoahs are mostly used for scale flying because of the heavier weight due to some magneto-something :) parts!!  Moreover their rev rates are less!! The 20cc from Zenoah is their best offering, I think..

I did not enquire about Gas engines in NTC.  Why dont you shoot them a mail and check.  They respond real quick!!

Chan,
Yeah these Zenoah things have a magneto, so no ignition battery required i guess. But 70oz fora 38CC engine is a lot !
My Decathlon is a scale project, so i may just get that .  I am getting a good deal from a store in SG. Hopefully they will have this in stock by the time i get to them.

So now i need to get 2 gas engines and 5 7955 servos hmm ! :)

Gaurav,

Let me try and do you a favour..

Check out https://www.rcsmart.com.my  They have Hitec 7955 servos in stock.  Their listed price is 300 MYR!! Thats about 3900 bucks in INR at a conversion rate of Rs.13 per MYR!! Nowhere else in the world do you get such a price..  I probably think this is a mistake because, Hitec sets the lowest price which you can sell their products and they stop dealing with you if you undercut their standard prices.  I bought the same servo for Rs. 5750 each... The only other place where these servos are available cheap are at https://www.chiefaircraft.com .. And they charge 89 USD per servo.. If you land this deal with rcsmart, its great.. Otherwise its wiser to buy from Aravind (Rotor, Chennai)!! I came upon rcsmart prices only yesterday.. Otherwise I would have given it a try!!

Thanks Chan,
That is indeed a good site, and i will check them out in detail . BTW Rotor SG is giving the 7955 at SGD 163 with a 20% discount , and that comes to around Rs 4200. Around the same price as RCSmart. Nevertheless i will visit both places and find out next month !
I do need to get the servos and the engine so i can have my plane up this year.

Will keep everyone posted.

A tip

Not many are aware that there are a multitude of small petrol
engines available right here in India

these are used for pesticide spraying by the farmers
and other agro industries - trust me I know.

These can be converted for model aircraft use with
very little modification. A typical
25 cc engine would cost about Rs 2500 - 3000
Amazing ? - yes !!

Am attaching a sample - the picture is of the whole sprayer - but the
engine is available as a spare. This particular sprayer is called the aspee bolo

I tried converting one of these but it turned out to be too complicated. If you own a lathe machine or have free access to lathe machine - and you know how to use it, then its worthwhile to try it out. Would love to see some converted engines.

Zenoa G38 is great engine and would last forever - some say it oulasts its owners! It can also be lightened significantly by using an EI to replace the magneto - an Rcexl from hobbycity is perfect. I am doing this on my G38 as I want to put it in an Aerobatic plane.  Check this link out
