Title: help to rewind 16gram hxt brushless motor
Post by: romanxdsouza on November 01, 2013, 03:58:35 PM
ok i know one can just go pay a few dollars  and buy a motor however i want to learn to rewind this motor have 2 which the wires just came out, motor did not burn ,this is new to me and  i have been reading about the same have removed the C-clip,and other parts as in pic below.
need to know how to go about next.

If you don't want to modify and make it the same as it was ....
then,  find how thick is the wire and no of turns. Identify the type the motor was wound from the below pic. The direction of turns does not matter.

I have a doc too if you want send me your Email

Just what to know which motor you are using on your slow fliers.... HK link ....

this is the same motor im using on my slowflyers http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6311 for the bipe http://www.rcindia.org/electric-planes/bipie-slowflyer-biplane-4chn/msg158750/#msg158750 i would suggest a more powerful motor.

i managed to unwind the motor but dont really know the type the motor was wound from the above pic.did manage to count one pole 30turns rest were difficult to unwind as may be because its my first time.

need to learn the terms used for the parts inside this motor??? were can i find a good pictured diagram.

thank you sir :salute:  i have read the thread and will keep refering to it

as per my learning of this motor hexTronik 16gram Brushless Outrunner 1700kv
  http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6311

i have noticed it
-is a bit difficult to unwind  :banghead: :banghead: because of the glue or varnish used on it :o :o ,was a struggle even though im unwinding for the second time, the same tipe of motor .. the motor has
-9 poles
-12 magnets
- Delta termination ...as no bundle of soldered and insulated ends were found
-in the pics below i have unwound another motor of the same kind and again noticed a single strand of wire turned around 30times around each pole  :headscratch:  :headscratch: When i unwound the motor, i did not find any other wire on the same pole it was one whole long wire going around 3poles
-need to take this wire sample to a shop and buy the same

i will be using this rewinded motor only on slow flyer with 8x3.8prop and 7x3.5 props, batteries 460mah,800mah and 1300mah ,esc10A so with this information can someone please answer a few questions keeping in mind im new to this process.

i would need your help on this please,if some one could answer?

-why the motor leads have 4 wires (post #1 first picture) when there is 1 strand of wire being turned around each pole and thats for sure :headscratch: :headscratch:? pics below numbered 1 joins 2 and 2 joins 3)
-cant i just use 1 strand of wire turned around each pole 30turns delta sequence,so i have 6 wires after completing 3phases
-after winding each pole what exactly is the solution put between each pole heard it called enamel, where excatly we put it after rewinding ?what do we call it in india so at a shop one would understand, which would be the best type, and what kind of a shop hardware,electric,....etc
-if im correct the wires on each pole should not touch either ,i mean the gap between each pole?
-what is the wire called copper or magnet what is the best kind?
-heard the tip of the rotor is coated with glue to prevent cutting after turning what glue is used here if epoxy which one? would aralite klear work?
-want the motor to  have a little more thrust say 350- 400 grams any suggestions on turns?  :salute:

please help answer these questions and hope this thread helps others who are using the same motor also or will be or may be,or plan to ...etc

Ask for magnet wire or enamel coated wire. Also, mention that you'll be using it to wind a motor.

Decreasing the turns from 30 to 20-25 will increase the KV, so it will add a bit more thrust. Also, decreased turns might make the motor a bit warm or even hot, depending on how much load it can take. You'll have to do some testing with a watt meter and different sized props to determine how much load the motor can safely handle.

thanks, still hunting shops for the wire

Try using different gauges of wires... I guess that for higher kv you should use thicker gauge wire...

ok so i wound the motor with the same gauge i think the shop guy said 30gauge :headscratch: however gave it 14turns with a single strand around each phase and with delta, motor seem to work with 7x3.5 SF pop and not 8x3.5 dont know about testing kv and thrust dont have the gear to do so,so will put it on my bipe and see how it does, did spin it for 2mins then  4mins half throttle motor was hot but i think thats normal it did well.thank u sundram sir and the rest for your inputs.

im using a 10A esc hope it does well

You can measure thrust easily with a weighing scale. Mount the motor on to the weighing scale platform with prop fixed in "pusher" configuration and vary the throttle to get thrust readings, try different props.

still not sure of the turns will have to do some more thinking :headscratch: :headscratch:

tried the wound motor with the  14turns delta on my bipe it flew well but a bit under powered but i guess the bipe needs a powerfull motor anyway, the flight felt the same as it was before winding it,noticed the battery gets a bit warm after flight....thinking now what exactly to do to get more thrust of the motor.....will try to put a video of the bipe with the wound motor shortly

I see you have mentioned the original turn count to be  30, I don't think it's a good idea that you decreased the turns by half and running it with the same prop as previous. With 15 turns, you have effectively cut down the torque by half and increased RPM by almost twice in contrast to a 30 turn, so it's best if you try using a smaller prop, maybe 5" to start with.
And don't use the motor on a model unless you have tested it extensively for thrust, current draw and heat characteristics.

got you,i was eager to see how the motor functioned as it was my first rewind, now i have an idea on how to rewind so will try to increase turns and then research on testing of thrust, current draw, heat.thank you for your advice....-if im correct the wires on each pole should not touch either ,i mean the gap between each pole?

It doesn't matter if the they touch.
