What a waste of time this all is. Sad to see the forum generating so much of 'fluff' .
Congrats to RCI on its second birthday, but I have seen a drastic lack of quality on the threads, and discussions.
I used to look forward to seeing the 'Recently Updated Topics' and catching up with the discussions, a year back, but now, majority of the posts that come in lack any useful information for all.
Looks like people have taken this forum for amusement and wasting time, and getting pride in becoming "veterans'  or 'senior members'.

Sorry if I hurt anyone, but I really think this is the case.

I am in total agreement with what you say and have expressed it privately - and with universal agreement - to the few members I talk to, albeit occasionally. I had also commented, publicly, on the excessive, unnecessary use of emoticons etc.

Popularity and quality never go together. The LCD element and numbers game are  at work here. Sometimes a bit of lightness is fine but general flippancy, no.

We are a minority community on this, unfortunately.

This is something I learnt pretty quick after the forum started gaining some momentum.  There are a few classes of people here.

1. People who believe this forum should be strictly and seriously limited to RC / aeromodelling / etc.  To be precise, pretty much every topic should be informational. These are typically the "close to 40 or over that" generation ;)

2. Youngsters who feel there is a bit of Orkut / Facebook element here. And I am personally guilty for generating some of that feeling, as I tend to post interest stuff from digg.com etc, which are related to aviation, automotives, technology, etc.  The idea was to have something for people who visit the forum multiple times a day, so they would have something to read that improves their general awareness in the above fields.  But I never expected people to post a "breast milk ice cream" thread following that line of thinking :(

Most importantly, I have been trying to post even small tidbits from my experiences on the field, in the most interesting matter as possible.  For example, when we had an issue with the muffler outlet pointing up on a glow engine, I posted it as a sort of a "guessing / logic game".  But I do not see the same from the rest of the senior members here.  They seem to get annoyed at the rest of the "light" topics, and quit participating.  What should happen is for the senior folks to bring such tidbits (I do remember the "new way to make a Z bend" thread from Sushil bhai) on to the forum, so that the number of "fluff" topics will automatically go down.

In short, take matters into your own hands.  The forum tends to go with the flow, YOU need to help build channels in the right direction ! :)

Just giving up is not going to help the situation one bit :(

Alright a bit of both worlds,

Did we not laugh on, and still do on silly jokes ? when we reminiscence on it , did we not feel , what ? i laughed to my hearts content on this shoot (It will in any case be changed to this) joke. If a thread is generating laughter, at the cost of a near fraud, i think, for the sake of light hearted laughter, it OK, i think, well then, that's just me.

Anwar Bhai
I take offense ;D to that 40+ thing there, at the said age (I am not going to disclose mine ;D) the kinda crazy things, some even very dangerous things that i am doing, incl having fun (Very crazy thing to do), doesn't qualify me to be 40+. that's what your innuendo is ?

PS
You know what, i have been a flying instructor for over 1 1/2 decade now and with thousands of instructional hours. i have realized one thing, best way to learn anything is to coat it with fun and games. this thread brought out legals issues, exposed a few blokes, got us thinking on what could be done and why should not be done etc.(Like Divay's action)

PPS
Having said that, i echo gaurav and Sushil sir, we need to move on from this thread.

(However 13638 hits , highest so far in its category and still counting, Call it 'Big Boss' effect)

I agree. Lot of craziness here lately.

Anwar, it would help a lot if you actually defined if what "close to or over 40" means. Is it mental or physical age? Does it reflect patterns? And, in what way does it differ (in thought process) from the "well below 40" generation.

Just look at who all have complained about the lack of "seriousness" !  I felt (physical) age and years in this hobby is a big factor.

But my line of thought was in line with "augustinev"s observation. Being too uptight turns off beginners, who will eventually discover the "rhythm" that many serious folks are missing :)

I would like to clarify that I am nowhere against making learning fun but frivolity on fairly meaningless topics lands up being the froth we spoke about.

Learning with fun, YES! Fun without learning or much else, in very small doses !

i am interested kindly call 09898736548

Upendra!

Not again, every once in a while a guy comes and posts here ," I am interested" without taking the pains of reading, relevant 288 posts, do you thing anything that needs to sell will go on for 288 posts ? even if you don't want to read, come one , use your logic, this was a bogus sale attempted by someone, who sent a plain piece of paper, and called it paper thin futuba, and if you look carefully it is FUTUBA not FUTABA, ;D

PS
the paper thin one though is available with Divay99 for free, in case you are interested :giggle:
